E. & J. Gallo
Our family-run business has grown—and accomplished—a great deal in our 75+ years of business. Learn about us, and see how you can get more from your career at Gallo.
Established in 1933 in California's Central Valley by Ernest and Julio Gallo, E. & J. Gallo Winery has become the world's largest winery and the foremost winery in the art of grape growing, winemaking, distribution and marketing of wines. We are the largest exporter of California wine; and are also one of the United States’ largest importers of wines from around the world.
With nine wineries strategically located in wine regions in both California and Washington and access to grapes from vineyards in all of the premier grape-growing areas of both states, Gallo produces wines in every category, to suit every taste. Gallo imports wines from eight of the major wine growing countries in the world.
Some of the brands in Gallo’s wine portfolio include: Gallo Family Vineyards, Apothic, Barefoot Cellars, Louis M. Martini, MacMurray Ranch, Bridlewood, Mirassou Vineyards, Frei Brothers, DaVinci, Martin Codax, Ecco Domani, William Hill Estate, and Edna Valley Vineyard. The Winery is also expanding its portfolio with distilled spirits and has recently added New Amsterdam Gin, New Amsterdam Vodka, Familia Camarena Tequila, and Shellback Rum.
Our founders built the company by turning challenges into opportunities and change into growth. Today, you’ll find that spirit at the core of everything we do at Gallo. It makes for a high-energy, entrepreneurial environment where you can really challenge yourself…see the impact of your actions…and drive your own success. Gallo is a values driven organization that encourages an environment consistent with our Company vision. Our values are:
Dedication to these values helps fuel every business decision the Company makes. There is nothing more fulfilling than working where you love what you do and the people you work with. Ours is an inclusive atmosphere where employees are able to collaborate cross-functionally with people who are enthusiastic about their work. This team atmosphereis at the center of our success.
As a family-owned winery, it is important to us that future generations can enjoy the natural resources we take pleasure in today. As an organization, we support a variety of nonprofit organizations and charitable events, invest in educational and scholarship programs, and sponsor facilities and foundations, like the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto.
E. & J. Gallo Winery has led the way in developing and refining new environmentally friendly practices such as minimizing the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides, recycling and reusing processed water, creating new wetlands and protecting existing riparian habitats.
Julio Gallo introduced an innovative approach to land conservation known as the “50/50 Give Back” plan in Sonoma County. For every acre of land planted in vineyard, Julio set aside one acre of property for wildlife habitat. This is a practice we continue today.
E. & J. Gallo Winery took the lead in drafting the Code of Sustainable Wine Growing Practices as part of a collaborative effort with the Wine Institute and the California Association of Winegrape Growers. We were also the first winery in the U.S. to receive the International Organization of Standards ISO 14001 certification for our implementation of an environmental management system to enhance our efforts to protect the environment.
We’re proud of the part we play to promote sustainable practices that are environmentally sound, economically feasible and socially equitable.
"Gallo sees diversity as an opportunity to become a company that better reflects the world we live in. It positions us to meet the needs of today’s increasingly diverse marketplace.”- Joseph E. Gallo, CEO

Since brothers Ernest and Julio Gallo began to turn their dream into reality over 80 years ago, the roots of the Gallo family tree have extended deep into the Winery. Today their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren work in the Winery, carrying on the family tradition and values – a strong work ethic, a drive for perfection and a focus on quality.
Mission: Gallo will remain a family company that will be the leader in the U.S. wine industry and the leading provider of California wines in select markets outside the U.S.
