For non-Swiss, the magnitude of resources and funding available is staggering. This is coupled with an excellent atmosphere of scientific achievement. Also for an academic, the absence of undergraduates and hence teaching duties is notable.
For non-German speakers, language barriers can occasionally arise, depending on the group, though management are attempting to address this. It can be somewhat insular, with little interactions between groups.
Advice to Management
There is sometimes an absence of clear direction between the academic work (trying to compete with ETH) and the industrial side (but not as start-up focussed as CSEM). This can lead to conflict between the old-timers and the new blood.
