Emerge – Why Work For Us?

Contest winners share snapshots and secrets to success

Our Putt for Dough Contest grand prize winners pulled out all the stops to earn top honors, receiving an all-expenses-paid trip for two to California’s world-renowned Napa Valley.

Tony, who won for the highest number of appointments, attributed his success to extreme focus and a decision to postpone any time off until after the contest period. Fellow team member Tanya, who won for highest revenue, credited her competitive spirit and take-it-for-the-team attitude as her primary drivers.

“The wine train was my favorite part of the trip. It was different, beautiful and romantic, and we both loved it. The tastings were great and we learned a lot that we didn’t know about wine, and education is always fun. The restaurants were great as well.”—Tanya

Meet Nick, a one-man powerhouse for managed service delivery

Nick and family

When it comes to determination, Emerge team member Nick has it nailed. As the sole manager for a critical shared service, he interfaces with clients at every level, across the globe. Nick is driven by a desire to provide opportunity for his two boys, and to make sure he and his wife stay healthy, active and involved in the community.

It’s not all work and no play. Nick’s family plans annual escapes to their favorite destination—the Hawaiian Islands—where they relax and enjoy time together in the sun. When he’s not soaking up the rays, he’s a “sponge” for lifelong learning, dedicated to personal and professional growth while investing for the future—including his children’s education and retirement.

On the job, his goal is to provide his clients the same customer service he expects as a consumer. “I expect a certain level of customer service when I buy a product or a service using my hard earned money,” he says, and wants to do the same for every client he serves.

What inspires me

Being able to provide for my children, and offer them the same rich experiences my parents provided for me.

What I love about working at Emerge

Working with team members who have truly helped me to understand what it takes to manage a shared service.

For Hana, the journey is just beginning

In her new role as a business analyst, Hana splits her day consulting from one side of the globe to the other. And while the days are long, as anyone providing global services knows, she finds her center through collaboration and by taking advantage of the mentorship provided by her colleagues.

As a habitual challenge seeker, she’s not afraid to take on the big challenges, and has learned that “perfect is the enemy of good.” We’re always growing over time, she says, and everything we try—personally and professionally—is just another step on the journey.

Hana balances work with a love of the outdoors, and enjoys hiking and exploring the landscape around her home in the Czech Republic. She’s an avid reader—especially of books that will advance her professional growth (current read: The First-Time Manager by Loren B. Belker, which she’s reading with guidance from her mentor)—and yoga enthusiast.

Her advice to others who might be starting a new role? “Don’t give up—keep a good attitude, and learn from others.”

What inspires me

People who are able to handle issues in a calm, polite way.

What I love about working at Emerge

Inspiration hits Phoenix

On Tuesday, April 14th, Emerge team members in Phoenix were treated to an immersive day of training, team building and inspiration. Called Operation Inspiration, the event was attended by more than 100 Emerge team members, and presented by the leadership team.

The full-day event provided time to connect, share success stories and help attendees build their toolkits for success.

Throughout the event, participants were encouraged to share what was inspiring to them.

Operation Inspiration was a reflection of our commitment to both employee and client success. According to our CEO Leo Linder, it’s the individual team members that set the business apart. “Their passion, skillset and performance are what drives success,” he said, “for them, for us, and for our clients.”

Topics covered over the course of the day included setting and meeting goals, developing selling strategies, and aligning work and personal goals for ultimate success.

Walking the Walk

The event was closed by keynote speaker Oz Sanchez, a former US Marine who overcame a severe spinal cord injury and post-injury depression to become a celebrated athlete, author and speaker. He told the audience that it’s the “stories” we tell about ourselves that determine our success, and used his own journey as an example. Despite his nearly complete paralysis from the waist down, the presentation took a dramatic turn halfway through when he stood and walked—delivering the rest of his hour-long talk walking the stage with only a cane for support.

Oz Sanchez, Operation Inspiration keynote speaker, stuns the audience as he demonstrates remarkable progress gained in overcoming paralysis.

Giving back: United Way NYC fundraising event

We’re always looking for ways to support the communities where we live and do business. In that spirit, we were proud to participate as a sponsor of United Way of New York City's 22nd Annual Gridiron Gala, honoring business leaders and local sports figures for their efforts to support the NYC community. The one-of-a-kind event was held at the New York Hilton Midtown on May 12th, and attended by members of our team.

“At Emerge, we believe in the power of opportunity and education is critical to gaining it.”
—Leo Linder

Through the Gridiron Gala, UWNYC has raised more than $25 million for programs since its inception 22 years ago—and judging from this year's turnout, it was clear that the legacy will continue to grow.

Our CEO, Leo Linder, said supporting UWNYC was an easy choice. “One of their marquee programs that immediately caught our attention was Read NYC,” he said. The program strives to improve elementary school success—particularly in reading proficiency—with the goal of increasing high school graduation rates for NYC schoolchildren. Studies show that nearly 74% of students who fail to read proficiently by the end of the third grade never graduate.

“At Emerge, we believe in the power of opportunity,” Linder said, “and education is critical to gaining it.” Just as Emerge provides opportunity for a large and diverse workforce to learn and grow, he sees an investment in UWNYC programs as one that will return dividends. “We’re investing in the future, helping to keep the opportunity alive and well for as many people as possible. We’ve seen what can happen when someone has a chance to fulfill their potential, and making that happen is what we’re all about.”
