    I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Enterprise is, and is repeatedly recognized as, a great company to start your career. Assuming you have a top notch management team, you will learn the basic sales process and fundamentals of running a business. There is no such thing as "tenure", so promotions are merit based and they promote from within. If you have great numbers, are mobile and willing to relocate, you can advance quickly. There are several departments and career paths to take after you succeed in the rental branches. You earn Paid-Time-Off, but need to request it at least two weeks in advance. If staffing is an issue, your request will likely be denied. The medical benefits are great, with lots of options.

    Cons

    Everyone is expected to work long hours. With most employees starting directly out of college, it can be a difficult transition to work between 49-55hrs per week, usually at least 6 days. Other than small prizes for contests, the pay for Management Trainees is low, even though they are expected to generate revenue with strong sales performance. Another downside is that several locations require the employees to clean the cars themselves. Washing and vacuuming cars while wearing a suit in high temperatures can be a burden. Since Managers are paid based on the bottom line, they look to cut costs ANYWHERE they can, and this includes their car wash expense. A common complaint among employees is the terrible work-life balance, between the long hours and low pay. Meetings are held after hours, and can sometimes be followed by a mandatory happy-hour, which adds length to an already long day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Consider consolidating the staff in each Area or District. Some locations are busier than others on different days and can benefit by being appropriately staffed. Rather than increase the hourly pay across the board for all MTs as low pay is a constant complaint, incentivize them for their sales. Pay a % for the additional revenue generated. Not only will this increase sales, but it will increase competition for customers whereas now, employees tend to avoid customers when they come into the office.

    I applied online. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

    Interview Details

    I started off applying to the job online and within the week received a phone interview. The phone interview lasted around 15 minutes and asked questions related to your resume. After that I got called into another interview with an employee in the HR department. She asked many situational questions. "Have you ever dealt with an angry customer?" or "When have you needed to step up in a group scenario?" Simple questions. The last interview was with the branch you will potentially work with. The first hour I just went around and talked to all the employees. It was all just friendly conversation to see if I would fit in, not many work related questions. Then I was interviewed by that Branches Manager along with the Area Manager. Wanted to see what I knew before going into the interview and I was asked many questions about both Sales and Customer Service experience. Overall it was a pretty solid process.
