Equinix – Why Work For Us?

undefined

We protect, connect and power the digital economy – and we’re growing!

Equinix is the leading global interconnection platform, with more than 100 data centers on five continents. Our data centers link communications networks around the globe, facilitating the seamless flow of Internet traffic.

Did you know that 150 terabytes pulse through Equinix data centers every minute? That is equal to 1.5 times of all internet traffic in 1993.

With $2+ billion in annual revenues and 3,400 employees worldwide, we are a proven and sustainable business. We also move fast with a pipeline of innovative ideas to fuel our growth. Equinix is listed among the 25 Fastest Growing Technology Companies in the United States and Deloitte recently included Equinix on its Technology Fast 500 for the fifth consecutive year.

We are continuously expanding to meet the changing needs of the industry and our customers. This is why more than 4,700 of the world’s leading companies trust us to provide a place where they can grow their businesses.

A career at Equinix means being in the middle of where opportunity connects. It is an opportunity to work with talented people to bring forth innovative solutions and shape the future of cloud and enterprise connectivity. You will have constant opportunities to hone new skills, try new approaches and grow in new directions. Your work will be seen, felt and appreciated at an individual level.

If you share in our dream to interconnect the world and build a historically significant company, we want to hear from you.

When our founders started Equinix, they envisioned a place where the information-driven world could grow and thrive. As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to the advancement of the information-driven world. As part of this dedication, we will:

  • Protect, connect and power the digital economy;
  • Constantly strive to evolve and share our industry insights with our customers;
  • Continue to make necessary investments to expand and scale to our customers’ needs;
  • Act upon industry trends that will affect our business and the businesses of our customers;
  • Cultivate a rich, interconnected ecosystem of the top networks, carriers, cloud providers and business partners in the world.

Saving energy through green innovation

undefinedWe constantly evaluate the energy efficiency of our data centers, and we’re quick to adopt proven energy-saving technologies or techniques on a global scale. For instance, systems that reduce power use by actively monitoring air flow are becoming standard technologies in our data centers. So are controls that optimize cold aisle temperature, chiller efficiency, chilled water flow and modern lighting systems. These and other green operational practices have helped us avoid using about 10,000 kilowatts annually—enough to power more than 8,000 U.S. homes for a year. To help us conserve even more energy in the coming years, we’ve set a target of 1.45 or lower for our design average power usage effectiveness (PUE), putting our new data centers on an aggressive path for efficiency improvement.

At Equinix, being “green” is just part of being operationally lean. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce energy and water use in our data centers, and many of our facilities have earned green certifications. We’ve also received the following awards in recognition of our environmentally sustainable business practices:

2013 EU Code of Conduct Energy Efficiency Award

    I have been working at Equinix full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Good work to life balance, good working environment, company is growing rapidly so job stability seems certain. Training at Equinix goes as much as you're willing to learn, there is always something new to learn every day and good opportunities to grow with the company.

    Cons

    Lack of Manpower, Lack of overtime pay. Some days the workload calls for more than a given 8 hour day and the company is very reluctant to pay that overtime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take a look at how fast this company is growing, its exciting and great for the morale. However when your employees on the IBX floor, lower and middle management are saying they need more man power and you refer to paper reports to how you staff accordingly, every Equinix site is highly understaffed due to the demand of work it makes for unhappy employees (I'm not unhappy for the record). This business model may have worked in 2006 when the company was much smaller but fast forward 8 years you see rapid growth and not enough manpower to be as efficient on the large scale that you are.
