A Message from Ali Saadat, CEO
At some point during my 35+ years building businesses in the DC region, it became very clear that the age-old game of B2G/B2B commerce wasn’t working the way it should.
Players used a hundred different sets of rules. Some stacked against the Buyer, others stacked in favor of a favorite Seller. Its heavy reliance on old processes, methods and standards was ineffective and rife with inefficiency—especially compared to the world of B2C e-commerce, where systems and processes were more streamlined, automated and equally balanced.
So I invested in proven technology and studied the most successful consumer marketplaces to create a better way of doing business—one that was optimized for B2G/B2B e-commerce, FedBid.
Through our dynamic marketplace, Buyers have saved time, stretched budgets, improved transparency and increased small business utilization while Sellers have gained the advantage of finding unprecedented sales opportunities without incurring the traditionally high costs of sales and marketing.
We give our clients the confidence to take control of their buying and selling—freeing them up to focus on what matters most when it comes to moving their organizations forward.
We’re creating opportunities for small businesses to compete in the same place as market leaders—while helping our clients be more socially responsible by connecting them with small enterprises they aren’t likely to find on their own.
We are proud of the accomplishments of our employees, associates and clients and we appreciate the active and constructive involvement of our alliance partners and community members.
Optimism and innovation have been hallmarks of all involved and as we continue to move forward, the overwhelmingly positive results of embracing constructive change are irrefutable.
In efforts to live our corporate “Double Bottom Line”-driven philanthropic mission, FedBid is committed to finding better ways to build better futures, inside our walls, in our neighboring communities and far beyond. Wherever our contributions can have an impact, we seek opportunities to practice responsible corporate citizenship.
FedBid Bridges is the umbrella program for our corporate volunteering program. This comprehensive extension of our Corporate Citizenship Committee offers full-time FedBid employees the unique opportunity to trade office hours for volunteer hours with a wide range of local and national charities.
In just a few weeks our team has cleaned up Mason District Park, supported kitchens for the homeless (Martha’s Table and S.O.M.E.), and written letters of comfort and support to breast cancer patients and our nation’s troops.
Inova Healthcare’s Mobile Blood Drive
In the hopes to continue our efforts to help those in need, FedBid hosts the Inova Healthcare's Mobile Blood Drive service every 8 weeks . Each donor receives a "Thinking of You" card to write a special note to the receiver, to let him/her know you donated to support him/her.
Here is a message from Inova about the positive impact giving blood has on our families, our friends and our community:
"By donating blood, you help ensure a safe, ready supply of blood for your loved ones, your neighbors and yourself. Your time, effort and enthusiasm are as vital as the blood you’ll help us collect. We rely completely on volunteer blood donations with over half of our blood supply coming from group-sponsored drives."
The Alie Reichling Memorial Scholarship Fund
The family of Alie Reichling, who was our fellow FedBidder and friend, has established a scholarship in her name after her untimely passing earlier this year. She was just 24 years old. The Alie Reichling Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded at her alma mater, Virginia Tech, to be awarded to a student that best embodies the same exceptional qualities as Alie. We continue to sponsor events to raise money for this scholarship fund in loving memory of Alie Reichling and all she embodied!
Team Up DC
To benefit Team Up DC, an initiative dedicated to improving the quality of youth sports programs in the District, a team of FedBidders competed in a series of varying athletic events! The event took place Saturday, May 31st on playing fields in Northeast Washington, the D.C. Corporate Sports Games will took the form of an Olympic style competition involving various serious and fun athletic activities ranging from track events and sack races to field events and a Tug-Of-War. In 2014 the FedBid team took 1st place.

I worked at FedBid full-timePros
- Great place to start out after college (You can learn a lot of skills that will be beneficial to you anywhere you go. Great if you want career in Gov. Procurement as well.) Can get good management experience early in career if you do well.
- Outside of Busy Season (Aug-Sept) work/life balance is good.
- Most of the people who work here are great and generally most of the staff is young so once again, a great place to start out.
- Overall model is very beneficial to Federal Government and the business idea is solid. However, execution is another story...
- Overall, it was a great place for me starting out and I will always cherish the people, skills and memories I got from here.Cons
Despite, the Pros there are some very real cons as well.
- Layoffs are pretty frequent for full time staff, especially after busy season if goals are not met. Rather unpredictable in who gets laid off and who doesn't. This makes long term growth difficult and building a career here difficult. Although there are some who have done it.
- Depending on your luck, management can be great or excruciatingly bad. I got a lucky draw and had great managers for the most part, but have heard many horror stories.
- Decisions for promotions, etc. can get a little hazy and there's not a whole lot of transparency or reasoning. Managers seem to promote based more on familiarity and is not clear with their decisions across all departments.
- Lots of Cross Departmental tension that seems quite unnecessary at times despite the fact that upper management thinks "creative tension" is the way to go.
- Not a good place to go for mid to late career people. More suited for college grads.
Overall: this was a great experience for me as I believe it was a good fit for my skill set but it's not for everyone. Be weary of yourself as FedBid can really hurt you if you're not the right fit, but can be a great place to start out if you are. Really dig into it and research it through HR and other means.Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Interview Details
I interviewed with people in the Human Resources department, as well as the heads of the various operations teams. The interview room was very cold, and I was rather nervous, but the staff was warm and inviting. They gave me a tour of the office, which I thought was a nice touch, and helped me see what I was in store for.Interview Questions
