Who do they think they are? Took a month to train then fired for limited availability.

I worked at Fig & Olive Restaurant full-time for less than a year

The food is alright but nothing special.

It took me almost a month to complete the 5 day server training. The managers wouldn't return my phone calls or emails as I was instructed to find out which day I would train next. They'd schedule one day here, one day there...a month goes by and I've wasted too much time. They're so unorganized that they didn't know what day I was completing on my 5th day. Two weeks after I finished my training (and multiple tests), they called to ask what my availability was. At this point, I'm still not on the schedule after a month from being hired. I had to pick up a few shifts somewhere else to pay the bills so I let Fig and Olive know that my availability changed, and they called to let me know that they wanted "part ways." There was no negotiation. Just a thank you and goodbye.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get organized. You're wasting a lot of peoples' time. You expect the servers to know the ins and outs of all menus and you can't even remember your servers' names? You also might not want to mention that you rate the servers and place the best servers in the best (most profitable) sections, it's not very motivating.

    Application Details

I applied in-person. The process took a day - interviewed at Fig & Olive Restaurant in February 2014.

    Interview Details

Took about 5 minutes to get hired. One interview was with two people that obviously didn't know what they're doing. They sent me to a table to talk to the regional manager who took a look at my resume, asked me a couple questions then said "I guess we'll take a chance on you, be here at 10AM tomorrow" without asking if I was available.

    Interview Questions
    • No difficult questions. Just asked if I had experience in high volume and micros.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
No negotiation. I showed up the next day to a very unfriendly face, the administrative personnel, who asked for my passport which I didn't have because no one told me to bring it. Very unwelcoming.
