Founded in 1985, First Republic and its subsidiaries offer private banking, private business banking and private wealth management, including investment, trust and brokerage services. Health & Insurance Benefits

Vacation and Holidays

James H. Herbert II
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer (Founding)
Before establishing First Republic Bank in 1985, James H. Herbert II was founding President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of San Francisco Bancorp. He currently serves as a Trustee of the San Francisco Ballet Association (Chair and Co-chair, 2002-08) and Joyce Theater, New York, and as a Director of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and The BASIC Fund. Mr. Herbert earned an MBA in 1969 from New York University and a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966 from Babson College.
Katherine August-deWilde has been a Bank executive since 1985, President since 2007 and served as COO from 1996-2014. Before joining the Bank, she was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at PMI Group. Ms. August-deWilde is a member of the Board of Directors for TriNet Group, Inc. and Equilar, Inc., a Trustee of the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco, a member of the Advisory Council of the Stanford Center on Longevity and a member of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Advisory Council. She earned an MBA in 1975 from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 from Goucher College.
Michael D. Selfridge
Chief Operating Officer
Michael D. Selfridge joined First Republic in 2012. Previously, he was head of U.S. regional banking at Silicon Valley Bank. Mr. Selfridge held various other senior management positions with Silicon Valley Bank over an 18 year period. Prior to this, he was with HSBC and also Wells Fargo Bank. He earned an MBA from the University of San Francisco in 1995 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1989.

I have been working at First Republic (CA) full-time (More than 10 years)
The people. I am fortunate to work with some truly amazing people who are incredibly smart and experienced and who have high standards for themselves, work hard, enjoy what they do and know how to have fun. I get to work with people who have a passion for service, enjoy doing the right thing and have a desire to help others. The culture. There is a shared belief in the importance in and value of collaboration, the team, responsibility, trust, empowerment and accountability. The pace. One of our values is quite literally reflective of how we operate: move fast, move forward. This creates a work day filled with a lot of activity and I enjoy being busy, having a lot to do and working in a fast paced environment.
If you are looking for a job or a company that is focused on a 9 to 5 work day, this is not the place for you.
Advice to Management
Continue to maintain an ‘open-door’ policy. Further the efforts to visit other offices outside of SF. Promote the importance of the continued maintenance of the unique and collaborative service culture that is First Republic.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a week. I interviewed at First Republic (CA) (Walnut Creek, CA) in August 2015.
First Republic wants to find key players for their team. They invest an appropriate amount of time into each candidate and it definitely shows. As a rapidly growing niche banking market, they know what they are looking for and don't stop until they find the ideal candidate for the position. I went through 6 rounds of interviews in multiple locations and enjoyed each of them equally. The personable feel that i received from each interviewee was unparalleled to any other financial institution that I have ever applied to. The folks at First Republic made me feel like home immediately.
