    I have been working at FirstGroup part-time (more than 8 years)


    Working for first group is a worthwhile career opportunity if you want to go places. The way forward is through transport in whatever vehicle you are using. There are a lot of people out there that want to get around on the bus or train and I would like to see that they do get to where they want to be when they want to be there. There are many opportunities in this company if you want to do well but if you just want to do your job then do your job well. There is always room for improvement in whatever job title you have. If you want to progress then take the offers that are available and you could be very surprised at what you can actually achieve if you put your mind to it.


    There are a lot of challenges when working for First one of which is the shift patterns. They are not always compatible to your social life or child care issues but if you talk to your Managers they are usually quite happy to help you out and get you a better shift or your workmates can often help you out if they can. Not all work places have good Leaders but that can be said for all jobs in all walks of life. You have to learn to get on with other people in your work place as you are all there for the same "Aim". Working as a "Team" is the key word and if you have the right attitude in all that you do the customer will be very happy and we are all "Customers" when it all comes down to it. The biggest Challenge of all is to be part of a "Good working team".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I understand that big companies like First are trying all the time to make money but please do not do this at the expense of some ones life. Getting them to do too many jobs in one is too stressful. Expecting the lower management to press the ground force to do better is not doing the "Moral" of the company any good. It is almost as if you couldn't care less about the people that work for you (that is the impression that I get). I know there are a lot of people that work in the company but we are human not just a number. Please listen to what the ground force workers have to say because you would be surprised by how many would like the company to run much better and improve performance in all aspects of the job. Just because they are not "management material" don't dispose of what they have to say. Many of us are here because we really enjoy what we are doing and want to improve and make First "Better Journeys for Life" for life.

    I applied online. The process took a dayinterviewed at FirstGroup in August 2013.

    Interview Details

    interview did not go well. One of the company representatives fell asleep when I was answering his questions which made the interview very difficult to do. The lack of respect for an interviewee made it extremely difficult for me to care about the company or the role.
