I worked at Florida State University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

~The ability to experience the laboratory from an employee perspective as opposed to a student
    ~Friendly, warm environment
~Learned important instrument calibration, hazardous waste transportation, equipment management, preparation of chemical inventory, interpersonal communication, and experimental design
~Felt as if paid to have fun
    ~Flexible schedules

    Cons

~Prolonged renovation and repair of the lab resulted in many failed experiments due to sensitive fire alarms
~Students never follow protocol, which leads to more broken glassware to clean
~Exposure to harmful substances and situations raised anxiety
~Cleaning an entire eight-room floor of the laboratory

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is difficult, but do your best and persist with less aged and damaged instruments and equipment, which results in lack of sufficient time management and inaccurate readings.

    Interview Details

The manager and I shook hands and then sat down. Then, she began describing the positions that were available and asked me what position I would be interested in working. As soon as I said cashier or any of the positions that I must interact with customers, she shook my hand and said "Welcome". Extremely nice manager and pleasant interview.
