Great place to work...but don't buy a house!

I worked at Focus on the Family full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've never met a nicer group of people. Everyone was so caring, helpful and kind and they stayed that way the entire time I was there. I felt like my colleagues really lived their Christian faith. It blew me away and I'll never forget it.

    Cons

There is a culture of annual lay-offs that keeps the staff on-edge and on their knees for months leading up to the lay-offs. Focus is a great place to work but my advice is, don't make any financial commitments that are absolutely dependent on job security, because there is none. Almost no one is safe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think/pray through things more carefully before you launch new projects. Don't proceed unless you can make a solid, industry-standard commitment of time to each project. What about hiring people on 1-year contracts, so at least they know from the start that their job might be short-term? To me, this would be the more ethical thing to do.
