I worked at Future Technologies as an intern (Less than a year)

Being a smaller company, the company is entirely transparent on what the goals are, what has priority, and whose role is whose. Everybody was friendly and helpful.

A lot of one-man departments means no outsider perspective or people to bounce ideas off of to improve. Critical feedback was rare before a task is completed. Internships are full-time and unpaid. Being a growing business, the workload could be overwhelming at times.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest more regular inter-office meetings to align overall vision among departments as well as garner critical feedback regarding tasks and issues from others, since many departments are simply too small to criticize themselves. I would also recommend cutting intern hours and/or offering a stipend. Review the FLSA's guidelines on unpaid internships. You have unpaid interns performing essential business functions, which is already a violation. You should at least compensate students with a weekly stipend or minimum wage.

I applied online. I interviewed at Future Technologies (Fairfax, VA) in February 2011.

I posted my resume to clearancejobs and received an email from Future Tech's Intelligence Manager. We spoke on the phone about my experience and a bit about the contract. He told me generally what I'd be doing and asked if I would be interested. I said yes, and we then discussed salary. Afterwards, there was some NATO and other paperwork to read, fill out, and send to the company. Finally I signed an offer letter and they set me up with a CI polygraph at Ft. Meade. I then completed my physical, and urinalysis and went to CRC. The only drawback to the entire process was that nothing was compensated even though I and the other FTI hiree were told we'd be compensated. Our transportation from the airport to Ft. Benning wasn't compensated either. And we didn't get any bonuses like those on the primary received.
