I have been working at Gala Coral full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

freedom to be what a person wants to be, good growth prospects

    Cons

Nothing much, but there can be delays in decision making at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please consider digital advertising, most of the companies follow that and save cost of all the marketing material which seems to be very heavy.

    Development Database Administrator Interview

Anonymous Employee in Nottingham, England (UK)
Anonymous Employee in Nottingham, England (UK)
    Application Details

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Gala Coral.

    Interview Details

The role was Development DBA in Nottingham. The first half of the interview went good, although he was going on for 20 minutes about the company, what the role is, then again about the company. Kind of getting lost in what in his thoughts. Right. Then the second part was rather odd. He stopped listening to me, kept staring at my wedding ring, not talking back or interacting like.. he's spaced away! He asked me about 10 questions, not related to warehouse development (!), of which I answered all correctly (confirmed by the interviewer) apart from 1 (I honestly admitted it's been a year I have worked with this and I would have to remind myself of it). Some other questions around what do I know about their systems, reports etc. Upon leaving, I tried to engage into conversation but there was no reply again.

I had a phone interview with the same person 2 weeks before and everything went fine. The whole experience face to face was bizarre. I got the impression they don't want to change anything in their ways, a creative mind isn't welcome, 100% Microsoft committed. They apply small fixes instead of solving the base problems.

I didn't get the role - have been told I don't have the technical knowledge. No questions related to the role and spec were asked, I have worked on their systems and reports before (which the interviewer seemed to completely ignore when mentioned). A bit frustrated but happy, after this interview experience I wouldn't be confident to work for them with this kind of leadership.

Please be aware the role is advertised directly by Gala and by 2 separate recruitment agencies - each has a different job title but same spec.
