    Pros

Gates had been in Ashe County for 30 years when I became employed and paid better than most local companies. Management atmosphere gave me a sense of belonging. Advance oppurtunities were possible.

    Cons

The plant up and moved to Mexico and Missouri.

    Advice to Management

Please don't send American jobs out of the country or away from productive American workers.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral – interviewed at Gates Corporation in April 2015.

    Interview

The interview was started late, but the engineer manager who interviewed me was patient and kind. Detailed questions were asked about my experiences, and a few technical question in my specialized field. More details about the position were revealed, and some questions about why I would like to apply for this position were asked.

Success is no stretch for Gates Corporation. Formerly The Gates Rubber Co., the company rivals the largest manufacturers of automotive and industrial belts and hoses. Gates manages three worldwide product groups: automotive hoses, power transmission, and hydraulic and industrial hose and connectors. Its line of industrial belts help power rock crushers to snowmobiles; Gates' hoses keep cars and heavy equipment engines cool; automotive belts are used in air conditioners to alternators, and its hydraulic hoses channel fluid in mining and construction equipment.
