I worked at Genzyme Pharmaceuticals for more than a year

    Pros

Really smart and enthusiastic people in the research areas. Great diversity of scientific interests and great success in developing treatments for important rare diseases.

    Cons

A lot of politics in the business areas and upper management. Capitalism [high price of treatments], regulations, and rigor of the biopharmaceutical industry make the work complex and require patience to see long-term results

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hopefully, Sanofi will preserve the assets that make/made Genzyme such a successful company. Keep the connections with academic science, and with patient populations and recognize that these will have long-term positive effects for the company - satisfaction and retention of work force and high quality research - even though it requires higher expenditures in the short run.

    Application Details

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Genzyme Pharmaceuticals.

    Interview Details

Phone screening followed by invitation for on-site interview about a week later. Mostly behavioral questions: do you prefer to work alone or in a group, would you prefer constant supervision or do you like to learn methods one time and try them by yourself, etc. A few very basic questions regarding my experience listed on my resume.

Sometimes it pays to stick to the basics. Corden Pharma Switzerland (formerly Genzyme Pharmaceuticals) couldn't agree more. The company makes chemical intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used in the production of a number of drugs at its production facility in Switzerland. Corden's main products include natural and synthetic lipids and amino acid derivatives. It also manufactures lipid-based drug delivery systems and partners with major drug companies to develop custom manufacturing programs for new drug substances. The former Genzyme Pharmaceuticals...
