I have been working at George Washington University full-time for more than 5 years

Great tuition benefits and collegial culture. Wonderful work life balance. School is in a convenient location for most of DC/VA so transportation and dining options are top notch. Great professional development opportunities.

GW is plagued with group think and people who have "always done it this way" and are resistant to change. If you are younger and bring up an innovative idea, it will get shut down. They do not do enough benchmarking with peer institutions to think of other ways to operate. Many VPs are entitled and incompetent and bring nothing to the table. Their front line staff do all of the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to work harder to retain talent. Offer more competitive salaries and opportunities for advancement after employees receive graduate degrees

I was able to get set up wit an interview because i knew the Athletic Director of the University. From there, I was able to speak with the Director of the Department. Once, I was offered the job, there was a complex and thorough HR process of background checks.

The George Washington University's name is just one more reminder of the regard the nation holds for its first president. Chartered by the US Congress in 1821 as The Columbian College in the District of Columbia, the university adopted its present name in 1904. The private, coeducational university's more than 25,000 students are scattered across its primary campus at Foggy Bottom as well as its campuses in Mount Vernon and Ashburn, Virginia. The school's student-teacher ratio is about 15:1. Its academic programs run the gamut from business to law to medicine. Notable... More
