I worked at Globiwest Hopitality Group full-time (Less than a year)
This was my first job in the hospitality industry - I worked for a Globiwest hotel in 2010. On the property level things were okay. I was fortunate to have a good boss, a casual environment, and a lot of responsibility awarded to me. I was given a great opportunity to learn and as a result I moved on to bigger and better things.
Globiwest is terrible. Cons include: Extremely low pay. Way below market. No recognition on a level above property (this is important in a role that reports directly to corporate.) No thanks for errors caught that saved thousands of dollars. Refusal to give a raise after probationary period while performing at an insanely productive level. The worst though, is the lack of care and hospitality shown to the guests. One of the people in the company (who is no longer there) that was essentially the highest of the higher ups flew to the property from LA. Guests were injured due to a fault in the hardware of the bathroom door. This person kicked the guests out of the hotel and then tried to charge them money to fix the door on top of it! This is with proof that the door was not in good working order. Totally ludicrous and against everything the industry stands for. I became ashamed to work for the company after that.
Advice to Management
Treat your employees better. One day of business in the hotel covered the entire staff's payroll for the month, yet we weren't paid at a market rate. Practice better morals. Brands aren't just about appearance, but also about attitude.
