GoWireless – Why Work For Us?

Overview

The average American buys a new cell phone every 12 months, which means more than one hundred million working phones become unused every year. GoWireless' GoGreen Recycling Program provides an easy way for consumers and businesses to make sure that these phones get recycled properly by offering store credit for them and then transporting them to the proper facilities. It has never been this easy to be green!

Why Recycle?

Fewer than 20 percent of cell phones are recycled each year and most people do not know where to recycle them. Recycling cell phones results in significant environmental savings. Cell phones and accessories are made from valuable resources such as precious metals, copper, and plastics - all of which require energy to mine, extract and manufacture. Recycling cell phones reduces greenhouse gas emissions, keeps valuable material out of landfills and incinerators, and conserves natural resources. Recycling just a million cell phones reduces greenhouse gas emissions equal to taking 1,368 cars off the road for a year.

Old Cell Phones?

Don't trash or stash them- GoGreen!

Did you just get a new cell phone? Are you wondering what to do with your old one? Instead of stashing it - recycle it! Recycling or donating unwanted cell phones, PDAs, chargers, and batteries has never been easier. Simply drop off at any GoWireless location across the United States and you could earn INSTANT store credit towards your next purchase!

Where Do the Recycled Phones Go?

With GoGreen you can give your phone a second life. More and more of the eWaste that is filling our landfills is made up of fully functional phones. GoGreen makes sure that mobile phones can live out their full functional lives. When you trade in a phone, we wipe all of your data, polish it up, and put it back out into the hands of someone who really needs a phone. It's a no waste solution that you can feel good about.

I have been working at GoWireless full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I was able to get in here on the ground floor with little sales experience - not to say I'm awful at it, but the entry wasn't as rigorous as corporate stores. Pretty good commission structure that's very straightforward, and the company is enjoyable to work for. They generally promote from within so I've seen people go from bottom-level employees (wireless consultant) to regional managers - Wireless Consultant ->Assistant Manager->Store Manager->District Manager->Sales Director is a possible path you can take.

    Cons

Odd management that requires off-hour meetings (paid obviously) for no reason other than to give us something to avoid by having higher sales (sell X and you don't have to go to this 6am meeting an hour away). This could be regional. Also, requires cold-calling to a pretty strenuous degree - to the point of feeling like we're telemarketers.

Also, hourly pay is far less than you'd see at corporate stores of any carrier. GoWireless starts at $10/hr while most carriers do closer to 12-13.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More respect for employees' personal time would be good.
