What is Grooveshark?
Grooveshark is an ecosystem that brings together music fans, bands, music labels, and brands. With more than 30 million users sharing over 15 million files, Grooveshark is one of the largest on-demand music services on the Internet. Along with providing free streaming music for our users, Grooveshark is also an instrument for artists, labels, and brands to develop new revenue sources from their music. By placing music directly in the hands of the listeners, Grooveshark aims to diminish piracy while strengthening the relationship between listener and artist.
How It All Began
While at the University of Florida, musician and student, Sam Tarantino, began to grow wary of the direction he felt the music industry was headed. In a pursuit to mitigate piracy and put music back in the hands of the listeners, Tarantino sought to create a service where music lovers regained control of what they listened to. With the help of his soon to be Co-Founder, Josh Greenberg, the two went on to create an online music library that was generated by artists and listeners. With Tarantino managing the business functions, and with Greenberg spearheading technical, the pair established the social media music service, Grooveshark, in 2007.

“Grooveshark is stepping it up a notch and making sure that artists are getting a piece of the pie as well.”
- Martina Wormuth, Sleepy Blogger
“Grooveshark is one of our favorite music streaming services, and their premium services are even better, letting you remove ads and listen on your smartphone.”
"After partnering with Grooveshark on a few different promotions, I started to see GS users mobilize on some of the great but unknown talent I work with, I felt an immediate reaction to the songs we were putting up as well as traffic from the GS listeners. Grooveshark is fantastic at getting the spotlight on bands that NEED to be listened to..."
- Vinnie Fiorello, Less Than Jake
"Grooveshark is the most artist friendly music service I've dealt with. Not only is the platform awesome, but these people truly care about artist development and helping listeners discover new music. As a small label, having Grooveshark get behind one of your bands is priceless."
- Theo Aronson, Oh La La Records

About the Founders
Sam Tarantino, the founder and CEO of Grooveshark, came up with the idea for Grooveshark while studying Economics at the University of Florida. He had become distraught with the current situation in the music industry while he was pursuing his lifelong goal to be a successful musician by writing, playing and recording music. After meeting Josh Greenberg, who was pursuing a Business Administration degree at UF and brought his technical background in web development to the table, the two launched Grooveshark in 2007.
Sam now oversees overall business strategy, licensing and key partnerships, and corporate development for Grooveshark.
Josh, serving as CTO and co-founder, leads Grooveshark's engineering, infrastructure, creative, data, and community teams, coordinating high-level strategy with technological implementation.

The process was very simple. I responded to an internship ad on my college career resource center page, uploaded my resume and cover letter, and received a call about two weeks later to set up an interview time at the office. The interview was very casual, we basically just chatted and the interviewer asked a few standard behavioral questions, but it was mainly conversational. I heard back about a week and a half later by phone.Accepted OfferPositive ExperienceEasy Interview
