I worked at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

As a level II trauma center and a teaching hospital there was no lack of excitement and disciplines from in which to learn. Very supportive coworkers.

    Cons

Management not open to suggestions on potential improvements. When very important (safety) issues are brought to the attention of the manager you are seen as a trouble maker. A few very unsafe nurses are allowed to continue working even when concerns have been discussed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management: Hire/promote unit managers based on knowledge, experience, education rather than seniority.

    Application Details

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a weekinterviewed at Halifax Health Medical Center.

    Interview Details

They have a tendency to make a big flash about wanting to hire people, e.g. large newsprint advertisements, but applicants are then given the run-around and/or told that the person in charge of hiring is not at the job fair on the day it was advertised to be held. The interview itself is fairly routine for those who get one. Superficially, it looks great going in but the new job euphoria tends to fade, not for lack of potential, but because management drags it down.
