I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

-Decent pay (not sure about benefits) -Normal hours -Respect of personal life/time -Great spread of projects to work on globally and domestically -Younger crowd is more enjoyable to work with -Concerned with its image globally more than most oil and gas companies

-Almost all work is in Houston - international travel is limited -Hiring practices are a bit shady (especially for full time hiring from its intern pool) -You are treated like a child as a new hire -Older crowd not as fun to work with - mostly from majors -Does not employ the most technical folks with good communication abilities; chooses fluffy presenters, suck ups, and yes men/women instead -The company is currently geared toward cheapness vs. quality that could place it as the top indep. o&g company -Company is still trying to figure out what it wants to be - even after dropping downstream -Not at the top of its game - just says it is

    Advice to Management

-Emphasis needs to shift to quality over efficiency at all costs -- yes, lean can still coexist with this paradigm -Older folks in management positions need to get out for things to improve internally -Hess needs to think more than 5-10 years into the future - big changes in energy are coming -New and early career management needs to be overhauled and replaced with more qualified staff, not by old timers that are about to retire -Instead of just training all new hires to be generalists the same way, produce a new hire program that allows each person to be trained/guided case-by-case, especially if they want to become technical experts in a field they are already very experienced in "grow your own timber"

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Hess Corporation.

First round on campus, all behavior questions, very professional interviewers; second round at their headquarter, very nice experience. I was interviewed by four managers who are all very nice and professional. I got the interview results one week after the second round interview.
