I have been working at High Tech High full-time (Less than a year)RecommendsPositive OutlookRecommendsPositive Outlook
A tight knit community of committed teaching professionals. Benefit package, vacation days during holidays. Project based learning gives teachers freedom to create their own curriculum.
Student centered school where entitled teens are empowered to view themselves on par with teachers. If students are dissatisfied with a grade (regardless of whether they earned said grade) they along with their parents will complain to the director, who will indirectly pressure teacher to change grade. I did not find this approach helpful to students as it did not prepare them for the real world, where it may not revolve around them. Common 60 hour work weeks. Work load is for those who are REALLY committed to be educators.
Advice to Management
Align organizational mission with class mission. The goals and expectations of the Board of Directors, school director, teacher, parents and students should all be in agreement. That wasn't my experience and it created undue stress.
