Hilton Worldwide University

Hilton Worldwide University (HWU) is a virtual, global university that offers an extensive training curriculum to provide each Team Member across our organization with direct access to the right skills, knowledge and learning experiences to be successful.  There are more than 2,500 different courses that are delivered through classroom training, e-learning, webinars, e-books, live and taped programs, on-the-job development experiences, social learning and apps. Curriculum is offered through five distinct Colleges:

Hotel College:Hotel management and Team Members study brand standards, compliance and other topics to enable our hotels to meet and exceed expectations.

Owners College:Hotel owners and franchisees receive training on brand standards, compliance and other topics to enable our properties to meet and exceed expectations.

Commercial College:Sales, revenue management, eCommerce, reservations and other commercial services Team Members learn how to maximize revenue and leverage global marketing programs.

Leadership College:Senior leaders receive a curriculum of executive and leadership development programs and experiences to ensure a ready, best-in-class leadership pipeline.

General Studies College:All Hilton Worldwide Team Members, supervisors and managers have access to a variety of training programs and learning experiences that enable ongoing career development.

Executive Coaching

    I have been working at Hilton Worldwide full-time


    Empowerment to do what's best for the hotel, autonomy when you are at a trusted level. Worked for Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites and Hilton Hotels. It really depends on the management company, as most hotels are franchised. The travel perks are amazing with employee rooms as little as $29. Great opportunities to try out multiple facets to see what suits you best: Front Desk, Restaurant, Sales, Catering, Operations, Administration, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Concierge, Valet and Bell Staff. Great for lateral and vertical movement.


    Depends on the hotel's management. If the place is organized, then it's amazing. If the GM and leaders in the hotel aren't organized, if they disagree, etc., then your experience will not be as great. Goes the same for any company. In leadership roles, you are expected to work much longer hours and will wear all hats in the hotel, qualified or not. Hotel employees, as in all hospitality, are notoriously underpaid for the amount of hours, stress and work they put in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It would be amazing if Hilton Worldwide would require its management companies to have a base vacation package or provide more personal/sick/vacation days up front from which the management company can build. Give a little on visible tattoos as long as they're not offensive. Assist in even slightly higher salaries for the area.

    I applied online. The process took 1 week - interviewed at Hilton Worldwide in April 2014.

    Interview Details

    I received a phone call within several days of submitting my application to set up a phone interview (out of state, looking to move). Phone interview took 20-30 minutes, standard customer service questions, inquiries about my work history, etc. Interviewer explained the position in detail and asked about my desired direction after being hired. After the interview, the interviewer said everything sounded good, that they'd be contacting me within a week to schedule my second interview. I never received a phone call, but received an email after a few days telling me I was not accepted for the position - odd, considering they'd told me I had gotten a second interview.
