Illumina in the Community
At Illumina, we pride ourselves on helping the community around us. Illumina in the community is a group of passionate volunteers that support many different events throughout the year.
One major event is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides Walk where we raise funds for cystic fibrosis research and drug development. In 2014, we raised more than $6800 for the CF Foundation.
We also volunteer at various other events such as the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, Rady Children’s Hospital, FACES for the Future, and MVP, which is a program that aims to ready veterans for meaningful employment within a Life Science organization.
Our employees are passionate about the work they do here.

You contribute to the development of new applications that quickly penetrate research labs and clinics around the world.
“The people are smart, fun, and passionate. I can always ask for help if I don’t know something, or when I want feedback on a new algorithm idea. I also enjoy spending time with them outside of Illumina.” - Jocelyne
“I chose industry over academia because I enjoyed the fast turnaround time of my efforts. What you’re working on now will be a product within a year or so, with a tangible impact on people’s lives. Being at the research department within industry is like an added bonus. It has all the excitement and satisfaction of exploring new ground while having a fast and tangible impact on society.”- Amirali
Each quarter Illumina recognizes employees who exemplify our company values. The Bioinformatics Scientists have been consistently awarded (8 consecutive quarters) for their collaboration, innovation, and creation of great products. The award proves the quality of talent that is in the Bioinformatics team.
There are many Bioinformatics opportunities throughout Illumina. Our Bioinformatics Scientists are based in San Diego, the Bay Area, Chesterford-UK, and Madison, WI.
