Current Employee - Claims Consultant in Christchurch (New Zealand)

I have been working at Insurance Australia Group full-time for less than a year

Competitive salary, strong unions, plenty of benefits if you're contract is longer than 1 year (Claims consultants aren't eligible until their contract is extended), supportive environment, good work culture, excellent training. Offers a great work/lifestyle balance.

Policy wordings are interpreted differently by senior staff, often senior consultants will contradict each other or be unaware of new processes. There is debate about who is responsible for what among the departments, quite often dealing with other departments can be frustrating as we all use different systems and have different information available. While their is plenty of inter-company opportunities, it seemed difficult for people to receive promotions within the department. Initially when you start working there you will be placed on "high priority" calls, meaning you will always end up working late; this will stop once you move onto normal call priority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be uniformity of the interpretation of policy wordings and processes; senior consultants should offer consistent advice. Similarly it is easy for senior consultants to become lazy, IAG should take more care with the selection of their senior consultants as they are highly influential in the claims department.

I applied online - interviewed at Insurance Australia Group.

    Interview Details

Initially there was an online form and sections where your would have to phone in and leave answers to specific questions (What do you know about IAG? Why do you want to work there?). From there you get an offer to attend an information session with about 20 other candidates. You will meet staff from different sections of the department (some senior consultants, quality control etc) and they offer a Q&A session afterwards. There is normally some sort of "ice breaker" question for each member of the group. From there; you will get an interview offer. You will be with about 5 other candidates for some group work (giving a presentation about one of the company's attitudes - Inspire, Team, Real or Achieving) a 2 on 1 interview (on staff member will interview you while another takes notes) and finally a mock phone call where they will test your ability to find information.

While "insurance" is accurate, "Australia" doesn't quite tell the whole story. Insurance Australia Group (IAG) provides business and personal insurance lines, including auto, home, marine, and workers' compensation insurance, in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and select countries in Asia. Brands include CGU, SGIC, SGIO, State, Swann Insurance, NZI, CAA, Safety, and Equity. The Buzz is the company's online insurance brand. IAG's products are sold by company agents and through brokers, representatives, auto dealers, and financial institutions. The company's history goes... More
