Hospital is the only medical center in a large referral area. See's many patients with multiple problems. Offers all major surgical specialities except transplants. Very busy due to the type of patients in client area. Managerial support is fairly good considering.

Difficult city to live in, bad schools in city, average schools in suburbs. Shopping is terrible. Restaurants are few. Hospital is old with many new additions--spread out. Has very difficult medical staff and two few specialists in key areas to spread the work around. Senior management seems to be top heavy, but they are supportive. Good older population that supports the mission of the Medical Center. Patient mix is getting worse with older, Medicaid and Medicare clients. Many non-pay patients who are demanding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too top heavy, too much importance placed on getting advanced degrees for nurses (MS and above). Salary is commensurate with area but have a smaller pool of qualified nurses to choose from due to Little Rock being 40 miles away. Need to work on nurse retention. Need to work on Medical Staff respect for non-MD personnel. Medical Staff is too powerful and has ear of CEO. Too much money being spent on purchasing MD practices and offices.

    Approves of CEO
