PT is great for students-not much room for advancement past that.

I have been working at Johnson County Community College part-time (more than 3 years)

Great place to work as a student. There are good "benefits" (not insurance based) awarded to 'part time regulars'. If you take classes at JCCC, it is an easy transition from work to studies and vice versa. It provides students with a wonderful opportunity to get to know their peers and professors from a different perspective. It also really helps keep students in touch with all available resources, which could be beneficial to their higher educational goals.

Not much to advance too-unless you are in a professional position, do not count on any advancement, acknowledgment, or change to full-time status. The college does not seem to want to shell out any more benefits that are costly to them. Lots of empty promises from upper management persona who are almost always less educated then the person working for them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It doesn't look good when you are in charge of dining services for JCCC (equip with four full coffee bars and three kitchens) and you are promoting external vendors (like QT coffee). It is bad for the image, and bad for morale.

Also-your staff are human beings, and deserve to be treated like so. The "trickle down" effect is out dated and, quite frankly, insulting. Assumptions being made about a 5-second visual of a moment, and then complaining to management rather then asking the individuals involved is degrading and shifts the blame to someone else. The "wait for your father to get home" approach is childish. If there is a problem, it is EVERYBODY'S problem and should be treated as so.

    Interview Details

I applied on their website, and heard back at the end of the application phase, as indicated in the posting. I received a phone call to come in for an interview. I interviewed with a panel of 5 people, they all took turns asking scripted behavioral questions. I was contacted at the end of the week with an offer, and accepted.

    Interview Questions
    • The interview was almost completely behavioral questions. So, there wasn't one that really stuck out over the others. However, "Describe a time you failed at something..." can always be a tricky one.   View Answer
