Offices are independent, but the company shares a relatively well-designed proprietary database, and research center. Competitive pay, professional environment, good benefits.
Personalities are big, and there can be disputes over commission/pay that trickle down, but that's just how executive search works. I worked for a partner -- he had a big personality and stepped on a lot of toes -- but he was, in truth, sensible, sharp, and I learned a lot from him. I can see why people might not have found the firm very hospitable, but I felt like you could, with some effort, carve out a role for yourself, and communicate with upper management directly and easily. Though the firm has its share of jerks -- what firm doesn't -- there's also not much red tape or bureaucracy. If you're smart and persistent and have thicker skin, you'll rise to the top.
Advice to Management
Decentralize some functions, like research, and encourage movement between offices. The global network of offices isn't utilized quite right, talent-wise. And the IT department, and its software, is getting pretty antiquated.
