I worked at Manning & Napier Advisors

    Pros

The people are all very nice and down to earth. It is very autonomous and you are able to share your work with people who are in a position to act on it (i.e. buy stock). Everyone is helpful when they are approached with questions and the compensation can be very good for a small city. Very manageable hours.

    Cons

There is a big lack of training and often times communication with senior people is hard to come by unless brought on by the junior person. The process of getting a stock bought is rigorous, but this can also be considered a good thing.

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 7+ weeksinterviewed at Manning & Napier Advisors.

    Interview Details

The hiring process was fairly standard, a few phone interviews and a super day with some managing directors. The main objective of the interviews was to determine passion. They want to see education and at least some experience (not a lot, maybe an internship) that shows you like finance and stocks. If you have a history of researching stocks for your personal portfolio, that's a plus. If you have a history of researching stocks for a school portfolio, also a plus.

    Interview Questions
    • This isn't necessarily the most difficult or unexpected question, but the most engaging question was pick 3 stocks that you like or have bought and tell me why. It was a great question to serve as a springboard to be more interactive and engaging throughout the rest of the interview.   Answer Question
