Working at the Library was a tremendous learning experience and a great exercise in patience.

I worked at Mary Baker Eddy Library

Not very often do you get to work at a museum that is brand new in the Boston area. It attracts very good employees (who are often under utilized) who have great ideas. It is located in a great area of Boston and the work space is beautiful. Definitely pays more than your average museum. Definitely a great place to get started in the museum field. Lots of room for growth (if you are at the entry level).

The organization is managed by church members who are not professionals in the museum or library field. Many of the positions are filled with people who are not qualified to do their job. The Library has been through many changes in its young life and is floundering to find relevance. There is no clear strategic plan and way too much money is spent on projects that do not bring visitors in the door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your professional employees. They know what they are talking about. Focus on your strengths and stop trying to do everything. Find a clear mission and stick to it.
