Intel® Security Group (ISecG) unites the previously disparate security groups under a single vision – to deliver universal security to individuals and business on all computing devices. Much more than just some “marketecture” this new group is transforming how we engage with our customers, develop new solutions and are organized internally.
Our guiding principle is something we call “Security By Design”, that is Security is intentional and designed into everything we do.
There are 3 elements to it :
- Personal security – our digital working lives have extended beyond the corporate firewall and we now consume many different services from the cloud, on many different devices – smart phones, tablets, PC’s, Ultrabooks, Convertibles – some provided by our employers and some we own. In our focus has evolved has evolved from protecting a PC to protecting user identity and devices right across the digital landscape.
- Security Connected – this is our integrated platform approach that gets to the heart of our ability to optimize your security posture at a lower cost of ownership. Think about the slide we showed a few minutes ago that talked to “spending more doesn’t always make you more secure”.
- Security Built-In – Security in the DNA of everything – in hardware (unique), software, services – extending from the chip to the cloud.
Intel Security Group’s guiding objectives the following items, focused across Consumer Endpoint, Corporate Endpoint, Network Security, and Management & Analytics for the Security market:
- Infusing security into every device that computes
- Creating differentiated security & integrated platforms for innovation
- Protecting digital identity as the core tenet of personal and transaction security
- Safeguarding our operations, our products and our customers
We’re Obsessed with Safe.
At Intel Security, we're looking for smart, committed people to help us defend the world against digital security threats. If you share our passion, join us and discover the opportunity to drive change and create positive IT solutions for a safer world. Join us!

Job title : Compensation Analyst

“From HR Generalist to HR Business Partner to Compensation Professional with McAfee, my career history to date has been both interesting and varied. And who knows what the future could hold, because if you're willing to put in the work here, there are plenty of growth opportunities to choose from.
This is a fast paced environment filled with great people and a strong commitment to work-life balance. In the 2 years I've been here I believe that you just need to be smart, innovative, thorough and customer-focussed in order to enjoy it.”

Job title : Programmer

“I have primarily been a back-end developer up until now, working on database and middleware systems for various companies. I wouldn't classify myself as a "security expert" although I have worked on security products for the last 8 years. And despite only joining a couple of months ago, I can see myself working for McAfee for many years to come.
From my very limited experience with the company, McAfee seems to value its employees and is interested in seeing them better themselves, and thereby make better products for the company. This is not a commonly held view by other companies that I have worked for and makes a refreshing change!
It is a great place to work if you like being a member of an intelligent, goal-oriented team. We have a lot of freedom to design, discuss, prototype, make bad decisions and then correct them. There isn't a lot of stress (yet). I believe value is placed on intelligence, flexibility and the ability to self-start.”

Job title : SOX, PMO
Location : Texas
“I started as an auditor – 9 years in public accounting. Then I went to work for a large public company in their SEC reporting/US GAAP consulting group. I was there for 6 years. I left there to become a consultant with a small firm... I thought I would be working at numerous clients, but I was at McAfee the entire time, just over 2 years – working on several different projects. Now I'm a SOX project manager at McAfee.
There are some great people at McAfee. Since I worked here as a consultant first, I got to know the managers and staff in several different departments. I really enjoyed working with them. With that experience in mind, I decided to take a permanent position here when it became available. Since joining, I have seen numerous people promoted and some people have transferred to other departments to broaden their careers. I do believe there is growth potential here.
It's a fast-paced environment. You need to be diligent and motivated. I'm very happy though as I'm working for the best manager I've ever had. She's really motivational and helpful. She always lets us know where we stand as far as our performance is concerned and helps us understand what the priorities are so we can most efficiently balance our workloads.”

Job title : Engineering Services Manager
Location : Oregon
“I began my career as a QA Engineer and did that role for about one year testing NetShield for NetWare and VirusScan. Then I was promoted to Engineering Services Manager, managing a team of one. I've since been given lots more areas to manage and currently have a team of eight. My team handles everything from the Engineering network infrastructure to the internal product build process (the CM team) to internal applications (Bugzilla, Twiki, etc.) to the product install team where we develop all the installers for the products at this site.
I've been here 6 years and the company definitely helps employees achieve their career ambitions. This is demonstrated in the QA organization with five of its managers having come from the QA line staff. There are definite opportunities for career advancement here if you're a team player, self-motivated and creative.”

Job title : Senior Executive Administrator

“I work in office admin, supporting 3 VP's plus facilities in Beaverton. I'm also in charge of the security here in Beaverton and help to support everyone in this office. I'm the person you see when you walk into the building. My office is in the lobby area right outside the office of VP of Product Developments, who I mainly provide support to. My job is fun and has new challenges everyday.
There is plenty of opportunity for career progression here. It all depends on how hard you work and how much you want it. After 5 years I believe that the best things about working here are the cool products we make, communication and good morale.”

Job title : Sales Representative
Location : Texas
“After 19 years at IBM, I came to McAfee with no experience of selling software, but I was familiar with the long sales cycle on high dollar hardware and service products. I began here in the first new hire boot-camp in June of '04 along with 20 other people. The boot-camp is now part of the normal training process.
I was first assigned to sales of the Intrusion Prevention (IPS) product line, selling to corporate customers with over 1,000 employees. After 9 months, I moved to the anti-virus (AV) software product line selling to Government, Hospital, and Education (GHE) accounts in an eight state region. At the beginning of January '07, I began selling the IPS and AV product lines to GHE customers in a five state area, with emphasis on the new product suites.
McAfee as a company is well positioned in the information systems security industry, an industry that is gaining importance and attention in the business community worldwide. The product line is currently very strong, getting stronger in the near future, and is well respected by our customers and competitors. The pay is comparable, and the benefits package is excellent.
Because of McAfee's growth and the fact that McAfee has purchased four or five companies in the past year, the company's sales, technical, administration, and marketing organizations are consistently in need of qualified candidates. With this constant growth, the possibility for advancement is present throughout the company. If you are interested in moving inside the company, you are encouraged to apply. The company has a large library of training programs available in a wide variety of subjects that can help an employee grow in terms of their job skills.
The entire team I work with is made up of very high quality people. They make the job fun and entertaining. And to illustrate how to succeed here, you need to be adaptable, diligent, have integrity and be intelligent and proactive.”

Job title : QA manager
Location : Oregon
“I joined McAfee 6 months ago and it's my 5th professional engagement in just under 20 years. That said, I don't take changing jobs lightly. I've worked for a small mom and pop shop, an established fortune 500 company, a dot com start-up, and Nike. I need to be in an organization that sells software as their core business. I enjoy working hard, along side my teammates and the satisfaction that comes with a job well done.
The best things so far about working here are that you get paid for performance, management is intelligent and fair, the work is exciting, it's a global company and we don't tolerate slackers! I believe you will succeed here if you are motivated and willing to learn. And that as a global company that recognizes and rewards those who perform, McAfee provides the foundation from which a career can really accelerate.”

Job title : Purchasing Operations Manager
Location : Texas
“I started at McAfee 8 years ago in the mailroom of the Dallas office. And through flexibility, dedication, and determination, I have made it up the ranks to become the World Wide Purchasing Operations manager for all of Indirect Procurement here at McAfee Inc.
Good people and good benefits at a growing company. Opportunities are everywhere at McAfee. You just have to take them. For example, McAfee offers online training to all employees in order to expand their knowledge and job skills, as well as posting career openings online internally. My time here has been both rewarding and challenging and I am looking forward to at least another 8 years if not more of the same.”

Job title : Director of Product Marketing

“Security is hot. And our organization consists of people with a wealth of security expertise, extensive go to market experience, and "can do" attitudes. I might have only been here 3 months, but I can tell already – I'm going to like it.
Enterprises, Consultants, Systems Integrators and technology vendors are all looking to invest with security providers that can deliver comprehensive integrated solutions – solutions that point vendors can't match. I'd certainly encourage work here.
My career history to date is as a global marketing executive with 8+ years of security software and services experience. I also have 20+ years in product marketing and strategy, alliances, and product management. And I'd say to succeed in a career here, you need to be a smart, self-motivated team player.”

Anna, Marketing Operations Intern (Santa Clara)
"I really enjoyed my internship at McAfee because they have a very good, detailed program for all the interns. You get a mentor, you get face time with executives, and most importantly, you get to do real work—not busywork. Plus, everyone was ALWAYS quick to offer help or advice; the culture at the office is a very generous one. McAfee has really done a great job of attracting, training, and taking care of their (hopefully) future employees."
Erin, Inside Sales Account Manager (Plano)
"I chose to be in the sales organization and McAfee has given me the tools and resources I need to become successful in selling. I have learned how to build relationships and how to effectively communicate with people of all backgrounds. I enjoy working at McAfee because of the culture. We work hard, play hard in a family-like, laid back atmosphere. The opportunities are endless. I started in an entry-level position and was promoted in less than a year."

Even though there is one writer per team of developers (or a couple of small teams), writers are part of a Technical Publications group. Very good collaboration within the group. Professional attitude.
No major negatives about company or co-workers.
Getting an Interview
Getting an Interview
- No OfferNegative ExperienceDifficult Interview
I applied online. I interviewed at McAfee (Denver, CO).
2 phone interviews followed by face-to-face interviews. I did not get past the second phone interview so I have no further detail about the rest of the process. Most likely a minimum of 2 face-to-face interviews with 1 to 2 group interviews (4 to 5 : 1 ratio). Many times, one of the group interviews will be with a small group of Executives to see how well the candidate interrelates and presents to Executive Management.
- "Tell me about yourself." (phone interviews can be difficult because 55% of the message can be lost or misconstrued since this percentage of the message is attributed to body language) Answer Question
