“I have primarily been a back-end developer up until now, working on database and middleware systems for various companies. I wouldn't classify myself as a "security expert" although I have worked on security products for the last 8 years. And despite only joining a couple of months ago, I can see myself working for McAfee for many years to come.

From my very limited experience with the company, McAfee seems to value its employees and is interested in seeing them better themselves, and thereby make better products for the company. This is not a commonly held view by other companies that I have worked for and makes a refreshing change!

It is a great place to work if you like being a member of an intelligent, goal-oriented team. We have a lot of freedom to design, discuss, prototype, make bad decisions and then correct them. There isn't a lot of stress (yet). I believe value is placed on intelligence, flexibility and the ability to self-start.”

“I started as an auditor – 9 years in public accounting. Then I went to work for a large public company in their SEC reporting/US GAAP consulting group. I was there for 6 years. I left there to become a consultant with a small firm... I thought I would be working at numerous clients, but I was at McAfee the entire time, just over 2 years – working on several different projects. Now I'm a SOX project manager at McAfee.

There are some great people at McAfee. Since I worked here as a consultant first, I got to know the managers and staff in several different departments. I really enjoyed working with them. With that experience in mind, I decided to take a permanent position here when it became available. Since joining, I have seen numerous people promoted and some people have transferred to other departments to broaden their careers. I do believe there is growth potential here.

It's a fast-paced environment. You need to be diligent and motivated. I'm very happy though as I'm working for the best manager I've ever had. She's really motivational and helpful. She always lets us know where we stand as far as our performance is concerned and helps us understand what the priorities are so we can most efficiently balance our workloads.”

“I began my career as a QA Engineer and did that role for about one year testing NetShield for NetWare and VirusScan. Then I was promoted to Engineering Services Manager, managing a team of one. I've since been given lots more areas to manage and currently have a team of eight. My team handles everything from the Engineering network infrastructure to the internal product build process (the CM team) to internal applications (Bugzilla, Twiki, etc.) to the product install team where we develop all the installers for the products at this site.

I've been here 6 years and the company definitely helps employees achieve their career ambitions. This is demonstrated in the QA organization with five of its managers having come from the QA line staff. There are definite opportunities for career advancement here if you're a team player, self-motivated and creative.”

My job is fun and has new challenges everyday.

There is plenty of opportunity for career progression here. It all depends on how hard you work and how much you want it. After 5 years I believe that the best things about working here are the cool products we make, communication and good morale.”

“After 19 years at IBM, I came to McAfee with no experience of selling software, but I was familiar with the long sales cycle on high dollar hardware and service products. I began here in the first new hire boot-camp in June of '04 along with 20 other people. The boot-camp is now part of the normal training process.

I was first assigned to sales of the Intrusion Prevention (IPS) product line, selling to corporate customers with over 1,000 employees. After 9 months, I moved to the anti-virus (AV) software product line selling to Government, Hospital, and Education (GHE) accounts in an eight state region. At the beginning of January '07, I began selling the IPS and AV product lines to GHE customers in a five state area, with emphasis on the new product suites.

McAfee as a company is well positioned in the information systems security industry, an industry that is gaining importance and attention in the business community worldwide. The product line is currently very strong, getting stronger in the near future, and is well respected by our customers and competitors. The pay is comparable, and the benefits package is excellent.

Because of McAfee's growth and the fact that McAfee has purchased four or five companies in the past year, the company's sales, technical, administration, and marketing organizations are consistently in need of qualified candidates. With this constant growth, the possibility for advancement is present throughout the company. If you are interested in moving inside the company, you are encouraged to apply.
