I have been working at Merced County Office of EducationDoesn't RecommendDoesn't Recommend
The starting pay rates is very high for the area. Other teachers do not get paid the same starting rate. The opportunities to transfer laterally are also very high. It is easy to tansfer to another area if you would like. The management is very competent at what they do. You are allowed to call in sick as much as neccessary and they are usually very understanding of taking sick days. Reviews are conducted once a year and are normally prompt and are helpful at times. You get to work with children which is of course the best part. The benefits are also fairly decent.
Oppurtunity for growth and higher payscales is limited. Furthering your education will not get you any extra money at all. You do not get paid over-time, even when you have to stay for a minimum of thirty minutes extra every day. Instead you simply get comp time whihch oyu are never allowed to use. You are never granted time off if you request it ahead of time. There is definite favoritism in promotions. If you don't know someone in management chances are slim that you will get the most sought after positions. Due to the budget cuts no one's job is very secure at all.
