Metronet Rail is at its last stop. The consortium has been taken over by the government agency called Transport for London after failing to upgrade and maintain sections of the London Underground rail system. The group, whose operating entities, Metronet Rail BCV and Metronet Rail SSL, have been shut down, is restructuring under public-private partnership (PPP) administration. Prior to its collapse, the Metronet consortium had five shareholders: Atkins, Balfour Beatty, a unit of Bombardier, EDF Energy, and Thames Water.
