All this can be wrapped up into a simple phrase we use around here. Better Frac, Better World.

MicroSeismic, Inc. is an oilfield services company providing completions evaluation services and real-time monitoring and mapping of hydraulic fracture operations in unconventional oil and gas plays.

Founded in 2003, MicroSeismic invented the use of surface microseismic monitoring to listen to the naturally occurring, low-energy seismic noise emitted from a reservoir during hydraulic fracturing stimulation. Utilizing surface, near-surface, and downhole arrays, MicroSeismic helps oil and gas companies understand how the reservoir responds to stimulation and its impact on customer economics.

MicroSeismic’s services include Productive-SRV, FracRx TM, Hydraulic Fracture Monitoring, Reservoir Monitoring, Seismicity Monitoring and more. From these services, customers are able to produce more for every completions dollar spent.

  • Determine ideal well and stage spacing to increase productivity and reduce costs
  • Identify costly geo-hazards and non-productive zones
  • Estimate 90-day cumulative production earlier in the life cycle
  • Optimize fluid and treatment efficiency
  • Enhance vertical coverage and landing zone

With over 20,000 stages monitored, and over 50 BuriedArray™ installments, MicroSeismic, Inc. has both pioneered and proven the successful application of surface microseismic monitoring across the United States and 18 countries internationally. From advanced real-time analysis to reservoir monitoring, MicroSeismic’s completions evaluation services are unmatched in the marketplace.

Transforming Live: The MicroSeismic Story

In 2013, Greg Burns, VP, Human Resources was contemplating how MicroSeismic, Inc. could become more deeply involved in the various communities where the company’s employees and its customers live and work. He attended the annual conference for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). During the conference, Blake Mycoskie, Founder and Chief Shoe Giver, TOMS articulated a One for One® philosophy that struck a chord with Greg. There an idea sparked around the company’s tag line: Passive Monitoring, Active Listening.

Listening.  How can we help others to better hear the world around them?  After pitching and receiving approval from Peter M. Duncan, Ph.D., Founder and Co-Chair, he went on to research how MicroSeismic could get involved with organizations to help underwrite the expense of hearing aids for under-privileged children.  He found three children’s hospitals in Houston, Denver and Calgary that were a great fit.

MicroSeismic took a unique approach to funding the donations, based off of the TOMS philosophy - for every well it monitors it makes a financial contribution to the Memorial Hermann Foundation in Houston, the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation in Denver, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in Calgary.

During the 2014 SHRM Annual Conference Greg was featured for his work on the Gift of Hearing Program with MicroSeismic. Congratulations to Greg on some well-deserved recognition. At this time, MicroSeismic has underwritten 30 hearing aids. See the video for the full story on how Greg developed his idea of giving below.  This video was featured during this year’s SHRM Annual Conference.

I have been working at MicroSeismic full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I love the people of MicroSeismic Inc. I feel lucky to have worked with such a bunch of kind, smart, fun people. There is a small company familiarity between employees of all levels and many employees meet socially outside of work. VPs and Management are commonly seen chatting and joking with production employees on a first name or nickname basis. The sharing of ideas is strongly encouraged for all employees. The benefits are very nice for the whole company and for the Denver office, you get a RTD pass and a parking space downtown. The company is flexible about core hours and time commitments outside of work for example I was allowed to regularly keep a later start to the day so that I could attend my prefered exercise class.

    Cons

The workload is challenging and time consuming. After hours work happens... alot. This doesn't happen all the time but I was warned when I signed up, and have found it to be true that things can get very fast paced working here, and there will be some all-nighters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication between departments would increase efficiency. Continue to encourage inter-departmental socialization and communication. Technical documentation, training and internal information distribution should be improved.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 daysinterviewed at MicroSeismic.

    Interview Details

Interviewed separately by five different people. It was a half day process. There was some confusion regarding what position I was interviewing for, but it was clarified before I left. Less than a week after I interviewed, I received a phone call telling me they were going to offer me the position. I received the offer a couple of days later. I think this was a much shorter process for me than for most people.
