I worked at Midway College full-timeDoesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDoesn't RecommendNegative Outlook
The campus is in a beautiful setting in a nice small town, and is convenient to Lexington, Louisville, and Frankfort.
Midway College has undergone massive changes in administration in the past 3 years and it has only gotten progressively worse. The current administration suspended all faculty governance (the faculty is not even allowed to meet as an assembly) and reorganized the structure of the college without any faculty input. Just over a month into the 2013-2014 academic year, 25% of the full-time faculty were dismissed in breach of contracts signed only four months earlier. Seven of these faculty (I am not one) are currently suing the college for this and for age discrimination. There is an upcoming re-accreditation visit this Fall (2014) and the college is completely unprepared. Numerous records are missing and the finances are abysmal. Apparently, the college functioned without an operating budget for years. Instead of focusing on collaboration and fundraising, the current administration runs the college through fear and intimidation, encouraging faculty and staff to report any dissent or dissatisfaction. It is one of the unhealthiest and unstable environments I have ever worked in.
Advice to Management
The current "leadership" needs to let go of the need for control and absolute power if there is any chance of turning the college around. Your faculty and staff are not the enemy nor are they your subjects.
