Moffitt Cancer Center was established in 1981 by the Florida Legislature to address the state’s cancer burden. The center was named after H. Lee Moffitt, former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. In 1977, H. Lee Moffitt lost three friends to cancer – each of whom had to seek sophisticated cancer treatment outside of Florida. Out of Moffitt’s sadness was born a resolve that would direct his next 35 years. He drove the legislation that established a cancer center in Tampa, and is the impetus behind our name and mission. Thanks to him, and to each of our team members, we’re closer to a cure with every step.

It starts with research, which is done differently here than most anywhere else in the world. Along with conducting more clinical studies than any other hospital in Florida, Moffitt has a culture in which physicians and scientists come together in one place – exploring new discoveries that quickly and directly benefit the people we treat. And by participating in clinical trials, patients also help make a difference in the lives of others. This team approach is leading to the latest therapies, treatments and technology. Most importantly, it’s improving outcomes and uncovering new cures.
But research and medical care are only part of the story that makes us who we are – because we’re not just treating cancer, we’re treating people. At Moffitt, treatment plans aren’t simply designed for a specific cancer by one doctor. They’re designed for individual patients and their families by a team of experts who specialize in that cancer type and work together to identify the best strategy based on each person’s unique condition.
Collaboration is the energy that drives us. Having a dedicated team behind each patient gives them the best chance for beating cancer, along with the strength and hope that are so important along the way.
No benefit is greater than making a difference in the lives of patients and their families. But Moffitt works hard to show our appreciation for each of our team members who help bring our mission to life every day. As a leader in the fight against cancer and world-class organization, we offer excellent compensation as well as a comprehensive, competitive benefits package to all eligible employees. And because we understand that no two people are alike, you’re free to choose the benefits that best match you and your family’s needs.

Additionally, Moffitt embraces diversity. It is an essential component to our mission that we value, support and celebrate everyone’s uniqueness. We welcome people from all walks of life, so that our research into how cancer affects all races and genders can help give us a robust body of knowledge about the individual risk factors various people face.
We wake up each day with the mission in mind, ready to do everything possible to help people overcome this disease. And we never give up or stop believing that what we do matters – to patients, their families and to the world waiting for a cure.

Advice to Management
Pay more attention to your researchers and stop taking ALL of their fiscal rights for patenting. A healthy start-up culture for your employees of such high intelligence is crucial to the success of the hospital as a business.
