I hold the position of People Director at Morgan McKinley. I was appointed to the role in Summer 2013, having previously supported both our UK and Asia Pacific operations for over six years in the role of HR Manager.
My passion is people, so there is no better place to work than here, which is all about people! At Morgan McKinley we believe we have the opportunity to improve the careers of the people we work with, our candidates. Peoples’ work is hugely important. It leads to them being able to achieve their ambitions, and we act in a critical advisory capacity in this important part of peoples’ lives. If you want to be part of an organisation that improves peoples’ lives, this could be the place for you!
We are also critically focused on improving the lives of our employees by providing fulling and rewarding careers. Joining Morgan McKinley means you will have the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the most experienced people in the industry. As a business, our success is based on our people - we develop them to be specialists in their discipline so we can provide the best possible service to our customers.
Morgan McKinley has been my first permanent role out of education and I genuinely love working here. I enjoy the fact that Morgan McKinley is a large global company while still having a close knit atmosphere. The people I work with are great and the offices are full of energy.
My specific role within the Talent Acquisition team is to recruit graduates and career starters into the role of an Associate Consultant. We hire with the view that our junior recruitment consultants will be our future leaders, that they build a career and progress within Morgan McKinley.
I have been a Talent Acquisition Specialist at our London office since 2014. After graduating from university in 2008, I worked in recruitment both in agency and in-house. I recruited for a variety of sectors but I found my specialism in sourcing sales professionals. I was very interested in becoming part of such a large global company and what sealed the deal for me was the people, the growth plans for the business and the values which the company uphold.
In Morgan McKinley, I network with and source candidates who have experience in recruitment and who are looking for a new challenge, or perhaps they are looking for the next step in their careers. I also work with career changers who may have transferable skills that they could bring with them into a fresh career in recruitment.
I have been working in Morgan McKinley since April 2010. I recruit Researchers, Recruitment Consultants and Managers for our businesses in Ireland, Sydney, Singapore and Dubai.
I enjoy working in Morgan McKinley and what I like most are the people. I decided that being a part of the team that identifies and selects the best talent would be a challenging and exciting role. I am always happy to speak with people from a variety of backgrounds that have a genuine interest and are committed to working in Recruitment. Many of the people we have working here have previously been Accountants, Sales Managers, Scientists and even Engineers, proving recruitment to be a great industry to use existing skill sets.
I am part of the Global Talent Acquisition team specializing in recruiting talented individuals to work in our offices in Hong Kong, China and Japan. I speak, read and write advanced Japanese and read and speak basic Mandarin Chinese and have previously lived in Japan and Taiwan.
We pride ourselves on being a career ally to all of our candidates throughout their career as well as providing a high level of customer service to our clients. As for the people you will work with here at Morgan McKinley, everyone is friendly, open to have a chat and our 'Free Friday' events in London at the end of every quarter are legendary. From day one you will be valued and supported in your career development.
I am currently based in Sydney where I look after the hiring needs of both our Sydney and Singapore offices.
I studied Law and graduated from University in 2010 in Glasgow before taking on a graduate recruitment role in the UK. I then decided to move to the sunnier climates of Australia over a year ago where I continued in a recruitment role before joining Morgan McKinley. My role is to network and source candidates with a range of experience from interns, graduates and career changers, who have limited exposure to the recruitment world but have key transferable skills, through to experienced consultants who are looking for a change and that next step in their career.
My top tip: Recruitment can be a demanding yet highly rewarding career with unlimited options depending on your own personal and career aspirations.
As a career starter you can get your career off to a flying start with one of the best companies in the recruitment industry. We will give you a clearly defined training and development plan, which ensures that you are best positioned to progress your career and capitalise on opportunities that arise within the business.
What our people say
"Having worked in two different offices for the same company, the one thing that I am most aware of is that no matter what office you’re in, the company values and attitudes are the same. It’s a hugely supportive environment and the opportunities are endless. For those who are looking to work at Morgan McKinley, my advice to you is to learn as much as you can about the company culture and values. This is a company that lives and breathes what it believes and relationships are important."
Sam Tiernan, Researcher, Sydney
"I've been able to progress very quickly here, I started recruiting my own roles after six months or so and was promoted to consultant shortly after. I like to be thrown into the deep end and to get really stuck in with what I’m doing. I've also been given a lot of responsibility and the room to run with new ideas to develop new and existing clients."
Kiera Webber, Consultant, London
You have worked hard and achieved a lot so far. As a Career Changer, you are not leaving your own profession behind. Rather you are building on your experience, gaining new skills and enhancing your career prospects.
What our people say
"We have nice people here and it’s a very friendly environment to work in. The job itself is challenging and can be stressful as it is a performance driven environment, but is very rewarding at the same time. You get to test your limit all the time, and I can feel that I am growing with the business day by day."
Tsugo Kohno, Manager, Tokyo
"What do I like most about my job? It’s the variety. There are no two days that are the same. Whether you’ve had a good or a bad day, you get to start the next day afresh. The level of exposure you get is phenomenal. As I recruit Tax professionals into so many different companies whether it be into small to mid size companies or big blue chip companies, you are able to view companies in a very different way than other people. Your commercial awareness grows significantly and that’s a skill that every Recruiter needs."
Kate Flanagan, Consultant, Dublin Ireland

At Morgan McKinley we recruit first rate people who in turn recruit top talent for our clients. Our basic philosophy is to identify individuals with the right qualities to be great recruitment consultants, induct them in our Morgan McKinley values, and then empower them to serve, to specialise and to lead. If we decide to work together at Morgan McKinley it will be, first and foremost, because we believe you share the core beliefs and behaviours that are fundamental to our organisation:
Always Building Trust
“I always act with integrity and respect and do the right thing.” We build trust because our reputation depends on it, and our reputation means everything. The key word here is always. We always do the right thing.
“I believe in what we are doing and I give my best every day.” We show commitment. That means we give our very best and we see things through. As a top racing driver once said, “To finish first, you must first finish.”
“I engage in open, honest, two-way, timely communications internally and externally.” We always communicate. With colleagues, with clients, with candidates. Above all that means listening. Sometimes the most important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said. Sensitivity and empathy are the keys to our success.
Always Embracing Change
“In an ambitious company, I recognise change is essential and I am open to it.” We enjoy getting out of our comfort zone. There’s nothing “routine” about the way we do things at Morgan McKinley. Whereas our competitors will say “We’ve always done it that way”, at Morgan McKinley we say, “If you always do what you’ve done, you’ll always get what you’ve got.” Recruitment is a competitive business and this means we need to stretch beyond the traditional boundaries.
Everybody reaches a point in their career when they consider their next move. That moment could happen when you are a newly qualified graduate, but it could also happen when you are a professional looking for a change of direction.

I applied online. The process took a day – interviewed at Morgan McKinley in November 2014.Interview Details
Submitted an online CV to the COO, was called down for a face to face interview the very next day. I thought the chat went okay, but then there was no reply after this. I thought there could at least be a rejection email or something, I did email to enquire about the outcome but there was no reply. I felt that I really liked the role and the company, so it's really disappointing for me. I hope they at least tell you you weren't selected or something.Interview Questions
