Motorola Solutions – Why Work For Us?

For more than 80 years, Motorola has helped the world be its best.

From introducing one of the first commercially successful car radios that delivered vital news right to us no matter how far from home, to developing the equipment that transmitted the first words from the moon, to leading a public safety revolution with the world's first-ever handheld laser scanner, Motorola's employees have a history of exploding possibility across the planet, innovating smarter, more flexible and more insightful ideas.

Our employees enable industries worldwide to thrive, achieve and do their best work. They create indispensable, indestructible tools to help more people in more businesses in more places to be their best. They do it to better serve the government, health, public safety and other businesses for which we've created clear and confident communications solutions for more than 80 years. The work they do is meaningful, impactful and ongoing.

And we need driven, motivated visionaries like you to join them.

Our Values

We are partners. We succeed together because we respect all individuals and value contributions from colleagues and customers alike.

To work with and for Motorola Solutions, start here.

Our Values are based on a foundation of uncompromising integrity and ethics that influence everything we do. They represent not just what we believe, but how we will behave toward each other, our customers, our suppliers and all of our stakeholders.

Valuing an Inclusive Environment

By focusing on our Values, Motorola Solutions strives to create an inclusive environment where every individual has opportunity to make an impact. That's how we build on the innovation that has been our legacy for more than 80 years. It all starts with our belief that the next big idea can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time. At Motorola Solutions, diversity and inclusiveness are more than the keys to meeting and exceeding our customers' diverse needs - they're our competitive advantage.

Motorola Solutions is a smaller, more focused company than our predecessor, Motorola, Inc., allowing each of our employees greater say and greater impact. But our culture also asks every one of us to contribute to our fullest potential. With our Values as our foundation, we strive to engage the organization in promoting a culture that values diversity of thought. This gives each of us the chance to contribute to the best of our ability, and is the driving force behind Motorola Solutions' success.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (more than 10 years)

The work environment is very flexible, management is very supportive and micro management is never an issue. Work life balance is very positive, employees have the ability to work remotely as they see fit, hours are flexible and paid time off is plentiful. Pay above average and the co-workers are generally pleasant, supportive people. Benefits packages have been declining, but overall the offerings are still industry average. The employee stock purchase plan is excellent.

Inter-department collaboration can be fractious at times, particularly when involving external company acquisitions. There as always been an underlying air of arrogance within the company, which can sometimes lead to missed opportunities due to lack of respect of the competition, particularly when it comes to pricing sensitive opportunities. New product development/change control processes are over complicated with too many layers of checks & balances/management sign off requirements that slow down time to market. Employment has been drastically scaled back, and admin assistance is virtually non-existent except at the highest levels. Which makes using PTO difficult since there is no redundancy in your position to help support the employees function in the company when they are away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through with process improvement plans. There are a lot of discussions and process improvement teams assembled to improve processes, however, they don't always seem to yield positive results, or lose focus and shift to other priorities. Share information with employees sooner, for example, that explorations to sell the company seem like they should come from management to employees, not to be read on financial websites.
