2000 - Present
After more than three decades of extraordinary success and unprecedented growth, NBTY is now the largest nutritional supplement manufacturer and distributor in the United States. In 2010, The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s leading private investment firms acquired the company. Shortly thereafter, Jeff Nagel was appointed CEO of NBTY. He was succeeded by Steve Cahillane in September 2014. Under Steve’s leadership, NBTY now employs over 13,000 associates worldwide. In addition to our Long Island corporate headquarters campus, NBTY has manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, distribution and administration facilities throughout the United States and Canada. The company also maintains overseas offices in the United Kingdom, China, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and New Zealand.
1990 - 1999
The acquisition of the United Kingdom’s Holland and Barrett in 1997 gave NBTY an entry into the international market, and paved the way for future global expansion.
1980 - 1989
In 1986, Scott Rudolph joined his father at the company and set his sights on expanding the wholesale side of the business. His talent for recognizing and pursuing new opportunities brought the company some of its most popular brands, including Osteo Bi-Flex®, Solgar® and Ester-C®.
1970 - 1979
Founded as Nature’s Bounty by Arthur Rudolph in 1971, NBTY began its healthy legacy with a handful of associates in a small, singular building in Plainview, New York. In 1972, the company expanded into the direct response business with the creation of our Puritan’s Pride direct mail catalog. With the opening of our first Vitamin World kiosk in 1975, NBTY added a retail channel to its growing portfolio of expertise in the nutritional supplement industry
