Why Do Employees Enjoy Working at Navis?

Navis Celebrates 25 years with Employee Testimonials

To help us to commemorate Navis’ 25th year in business, we recently asked our employees what they liked best about working at Navis. Here are some of the responses that we received.

“Every day is different; different challenges, different locations. The company is the sum of its people. I like that I am surrounded by supportive colleagues with a “can do” attitude who ultimately …can do!”

Duncan Smith, Director of Professional Services, Europe, 2 years at Navis

“I’m really excited about building software for automated container terminals. Managing development around this area has been a great way for me to contribute. I really like helping others work through technical and domain issues important to their development work. I also like being part of the glue that keeps the development work flowing smoothly. I’ve been working with marine container shipping operations since 1984. I really like the business. I like how the industry is small. This means that I get to see many of the same customer representatives over the years. The problems we get to solve are constantly evolving into new more challenging ones. I learn something new every day. The people that work at Navis are all top notch. I am always amazed at how many smart people work here!”

Peter Ireland, Manager of Software Development, 24 years at Navis

“Navis is a global company and as a PS consultant we meet different client with totally different demands. Every site is a new experience which is very good for my career and personal development. Hard work is always rewarded. These points made me not to update my CV for last 9 years!”

Bency Raghavan, Senior Consultant, Professional Services, 9 years with Navis

“Constant change and a never ending supply of challenges. The 3 P’s – the people, the products, and our position in the market. In the “people” category, I include not just colleagues in Navis but the vast majority of our customers, who are just such delightful people to know and work with.”

Tony Rees, Senior Director of Support, EMEA, 9 years with Navis

“I grew up in a small town with no exposure to the wider world. Navis puts the real meaning into term ‘Multi-National Company’. My co-workers come from every corner of the globe. I have built close relationships with our customers across every continent. Through Navis, I’ve had the opportunity to travel and work literally everywhere.”

Peter Charron, VP of Architecture, 22 years with Navis

“Work autonomy - my manager gives me the freedom and support to make departmental decisions regularly. I am reaching higher goals than ever before. The esprit de corp. Going home each night feeling like I’ve accomplished what I set out to. All of the wonderful people I work with is what I like best about working at Navis. The location – it doesn’t get any better than this. The responsibility all of our employees have, and my personal desire, to make Navis a better work place for all.”

Claire Kaymon, Custom Solutions Practice Manager, 5.5 years with Navis

The people that I work with and my boss. Not just in my role, but also throughout the company, the people are wonderful to work with and the Managers really care about you personally and your success. There are many opportunities available to work different jobs and move around the company so that you can be the best that you can be. Also the new office space is very nice and offers many different meeting settings that are great for bringing people together.”

Alison Anderson, Senior Technical Writer, 13 years at Navis

I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at Navis LLC (Orlando, FL) in April 2015.

I was interviewed over the phone on a weekend and brought in for an assessment, which was passed at 100% with a keyboard speed three times higher than required. Was told I would get a call that day (Monday) to get scheduled for orientation the following Friday, if they were interested. I didn't get a call, but I called and left a message. It wasn't returned.
I got an email the following day that said they had good news but needed to get back to me, and then again on Thursday, asking me to call, again saying they had good news. I called twice and didn't get my calls returned, then I emailed to let them know I had called.
On Friday, I got a call asking me why I didn't show up for orientation. Then an apology because they realized they hadn't called, but they asked me to come in to fill out the paperwork and start training the following Monday. I went in and filled out the papers, and showed up half an hour early on Monday to start training.
About an hour into training, someone arrived late, and I was asked to leave, because they had more people than they needed, and that they would call me if someone dropped out.
I found this experience unprofessional and humiliating.
I'm sure they are a great company to work for, but that's for someone else to discover. If they wanted a really great employee, who doesn't arrive late, shows up every day, and works harder than most, they really blew it.
