Vision & Values
We envision a day when there will be a Checkerboard in every involved pet owner's home. Our Vision represents the fulfillment of shared goals, and as a team, we move this Vision closer to becoming a reality every day. We're always looking for people who share our core values: the standards of behavior that we individually and collectively embrace and live by that unite us as a team.
The Five Talls
The "Five Talls" are used to reference Nestlé Purina's values as an organization. The term "Talls" has a rich history in the Purina culture, referencing Ralston Purina's originating values that date back to the company's founder, William H. Danforth. Mr. Danforth believed each person has not one, but four lives to live. A man's ingredients for life, he said, are a body, a mind, a personality, and character, and all four must grow in balance with each other. These values – Integrity, Passion, Expertise, and Performance – were known to Purina associates as "The Four Talls". The fifth "Tall", Innovation, was added in 2009 to demonstrate Nestlé Purina's commitment to value, expect, and promote curiosity and innovative thinking in our associates.
1 We Stand Tall With Integrity
We have a sterling reputation and conduct our business affairs with pride and dignity. We embrace change and we work to maintain the trust we have earned over our history by doing what we say we will do, every time.
2 We Stand Tall With Passion
We are excited about our role in enriching the lives of pets and the people who love them. We believe that each of us can make a positive impact, and we are passionate about providing the highest-quality products, services and solutions. We willingly accept challenges with a confidence that no undertaking is too big. We have a "can do" attitude and a passion for life.
3 We Stand Tall With Expertise
We are experts both in pet care and our individual disciplines. We enthusiastically gather, share and apply new ideas and information. We look for the best in people and take pride in helping others succeed. We resolve to create, accept and pass on great work.
4 We Stand Tall With Performance
We are relentlessly dedicated to being number one with customers and consumers, attacking obstacles until we prevail, outperforming our competitors and achieving our business goals. Our competitiveness is focused on external forces; internally, we work together, often in cross-functional teams to face challenges. We set lofty goals and strive to meet or exceed them.
5 We Stand Tall With Innovation
We value, expect, and promote curiosity and innovative thinking, along with calculated risk-taking, across all levels of the organization. We knock down barriers to progress – be they physical, intellectual or perceptual. We share a common vision for the future and a passion for creativity. We pursue a collective mission to create new, enriching possibilities for people and pets.

We'll Help You Focus on Your Future
At Nestlé Purina, we believe that an investment in people is an investment in our shared future. Working here, you'll discover that training, learning, and growth are central to how we operate. We focus on each associate and their individual career development goals. From tuition reimbursement to a host of training opportunities, you're encouraged to improve your skills and grow your future prospects.
Nestlé Purina offers a variety of experiential and on-the-job opportunities, as well as in-classroom, online, and external training courses to meet your changing needs. Whether you're looking for foundational courses within your first few years or advanced courses focusing on management and leadership, our Organization Development team has designed curriculum that is based on key competencies, tied to career goals, and focused on meeting each of your professional needs.
We recognize that there is more to performance than simply measuring results. That's why our managers take the time to provide performance evaluations and have development discussions that focus not only on the results an individual receives, but also how the person accomplishes their objectives. It is our goal that all associates pursue functional excellence, lifelong skill development and constant professional growth.
Diversity & Inclusion
Our belief that pets and people are better together drives us to build the strongest teams who enable us to produce the highest quality products. We recognize that in order to have the best products, we must openly embrace diversity of all types. And it's the diversity of thought that sparks our most innovative ideas and fosters our most strategic partnerships. We value our individual differences that, ultimately, bring us closer together to empower, inspire and impact the lives of others.
As an organization, we're committed to cultivating a culturally diverse and inclusive environment to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Nestlé Purina is continuously in pursuit of attracting and retaining great talent that comes to us from a variety of backgrounds. While we're proud to house a uniquely diverse body of associates within the halls of Nestlé Purina, there's one commonality we all share: the passion to enrich the lives of pets and the people who love them.
"Our company has to reflect our entire consumer base, and from that lens alone, it is vital that we have a diverse set of associates, in terms of their thinking, lifestyle, age, and socio-economic background – in addition to race and gender. Beyond that, we have and want to maintain Nestlé Purina as a best place to work. We cannot do that without creating an inclusive workplace, in which everyone feels able to contribute to the overall vision and performance of the organization. On these two important fronts, our work is never done."
Pat McGinnis, CEO
The diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives that the company participates in has helped Purina embrace diverse thoughts and ideas, helping the company look at things differently, which in return makes us a stronger company now and for the future.

Change starts from within. By being part of the Nestlé Purina Business Diversity Group, I have an opportunity to directly engage with new employees to create an inclusive workplace and also to look for innovative ways to interest people of diverse backgrounds to be excited to be part of our company and culture.

I have been working at Nestlé Purina PetCare full-time (more than 5 years)Pros
The culture of bettering the life of pets can be seen throughout the entire organization in every department. There is a passion at Nestlé Purina that I feel is matched in few companies. The work/life balance here is outstanding. It's understood by all managers. It's a culture here that Purina prides itself in. And the fact we still get a pension is outstanding.Cons
The base salary pay is middle of the range at best. The cost of the great work life balance slightly comes at the expense of base salary. Of course we also get a pension, so that's somewhat off set. Other than that employees really do have it good here, not much to complain about!!Advice to ManagementAdvice
Don't be afraid to take a few risks. We clearly missed the boat on the ultra category. I know our conservative nature at Purina has proved to withstand the test of time. But every once in a while we must venture out of our comfort zone.RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEO
Getting an Interview
Getting an Interview
- Application Details
I applied online – interviewed at Nestlé Purina PetCare.Interview Details
My contact with Purina prior to the face-to-face interviews took place via email. The phone screen was 1 hour and covered my job history and qualifications, why I was leaving my current position, salary expectations, etc. I learned only a little about the role and was told I would learn more in the interviews if I were invited to interview. A little while later I heard I was moving on to the next step of the process. The interviews were arduous - three behavioral-based interviews asking for different examples to be used with each person. Because of how long that process took, I didn't have much time to ask questions about the role or team I would be joining, and when I did I received a fairly high-level description of the responsibilities. In general I felt I could do the job as I understood it with my experience, but I will say that the focus on the behavioral interviewing and the time that takes didn't give me as a candidate much information about the company, the role they will be assuming if hired and how it fits into the bigger picture, information about the rest of the team, etc. In general I had a positive feeling about the company based on available internet info and its good reputation, as well as my positive interactions with the interview team, but it's a good thing because no one did much promoting. The value of behavioral interviewing is great for the organization to make quality hires, but would also recommend putting a little more focus on those considering whether or not to join the company and seeing the interview process from their perspective as well. Often for experienced candidates, interviews are being conducted in both directions.Interview Questions

- The questions aren't difficult in and of themselves, but the fact that similar questions are asked in slightly different ways and you are supposed to have different scenarios each time is the tricky part. Answer Question
Most would say we make pet food. We say we make honest goodness – in our products, our processes, our people and our philanthropy. We are known as a leader in the pet care industry and as a ‘Best Place to Work’. We are wholesome with a small-company feel, but big opportunities on a global scale. We invest in you as much as we invest in our ideas.
