    Pros

    love the money and benefits along with the people I work with. Its a very demanding and hard job and not everyone can do this job. Its a dangerous job , but someone's got to do it..

    Cons

    the long hrs. and the extreme danger of this job is a not for everyone. You need to be on your toes every second while on duty because you can be seriously injured or even killed in prison while on duty

    I applied through other source. The process took 6+ monthsinterviewed at New York State Department of Corrections (Albany, NY).

    Interview

    Civil service test, at least 2 interviews. 8 weeks of training at the academy. Civil service test and 3 years as a Correction Officer. 2 weeks of training at the academy to make Sergeant. Civil Service test and at least 1 YR. as a permanent Correction Sergeant. 1 week at the academt to make Lieutenant.
