I worked at Newport News Shipbuilding full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great working conditions and advancement opportunities. Excellent management to work under. The benefits and working conditions were always the very best.

    Cons

The working hours were sometimes very demanding due to having to work as long as required to complete the testing requirements. I once had to work a 12 hour shift seven days a week for five months

    Interview Details

Too long ago. I don't really remember details, but in my case I don't think I found it to be exceptionally arduous. Was harder to get my resume seen. Once it was seen things moved along.

    Interview Questions
    • I don't remember. I do remember my perspective boss asking me if I could work in ambiguous conditions. You have to realize that once you get hired it is a very large complex place. Processes are complex, the deck plate work is complex, just getting around early on can seem complex. Be patient, try to involve yourself in as much as you can and 'eat the elephant one bite at a time.' It will take years in some cases for the puzzle to start looking like a real picture.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
Make sure if you are a mid-career person that you get the leave time you deserve. They will try to cut you short if they can.
