I worked at Newsweek Daily Beast

    Pros

The Daily Beast and Newsweek parted ways towards the end of 2013. The Daily Beast functions more like an start up with lean operations, a motivated team of reporters, and a strong digital focus. Newsweek is more print focused and has recently put the magazine back into print.

    Cons

There was a lot of uncertainty for awhile, but it seems like things have leveled out at this point. The reporting at The Daily Beast is great.

    Interview Details

Had phone chat with recruiter who said my background was an excellent fit, was given a take home test. After a day I was contact to speak directly with the CTO which I interpretted as a good sign. Then I was contact a minute before the phone call and was told "there was a scheduling conflict and we'd have to try another time". I quickly asked about my test feedback and was told there hadn't been any yet. I was never contact again by the recruiter to set up another time for the CTO call.

This news beast knows a thing or two about current events. The Newsweek/Daily Beast Company joint venture was formed after the late stereo equipment magnate Sidney Harman purchased the ailing Newsweek from The Washington Post in 2010 and merged it with IAC/InterActive's online current events magazine Daily Beast in 2011. Newsweek was founded in 1933 by Thomas Martyn, a former editor at Time magazine who wanted to strike up some competition. The Daily Beast was launched in 2008; its co-founder and editor-in-chief Tina Brown formerly served as editor of Vanity Fair and the... More
