These comments are at the heart of North Shore-LIJ’s sustainability and social responsibility mission. In November 2010, our CEO, Michael J. Dowling, shared these ideas in an article he wrote for employees shortly after North Shore-LIJ publicly partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish far-reaching, environmentally responsible programs and business practices at its facilities. Since signing the EPA agreement, North Shore-LIJ’s sustainability and social responsibility agenda is now part of the health system’s day-today operations. We actively avoid contributing to the environmental hazards that cause health problems in our communities and work to increase health, economic and social equality to help people live healthy lives. We have also created strategic partnerships locally in an effort to increase our impact and further advance sustainability practices across our region.

    The system at North shore is very organized and helpful. Management wants you to succeed and they train new hires very well.


    Stress of the job is a definite negative. But that is nursing anywhere you go. Night shifts are hard because supervisors aren't around and it's hard to get help when needed.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to employees and keep up the communication process so that everyone is on the same page. always keep an open communication line so gossip doesn't get through only

    It was a great experience overall. The atmosphere was formal but slightly conversational. The only disappointing aspect concerning the entire process is not receiving any responses regarding the next step. Even though I won't give up, it is soul crushing not to hear anything back from one of your top institutions that you hope to build your career with.

    My humble feedback to the recruiting team would be to give a quicker response to potential candidates if they haven't been selected for the position that they interviewed for and to keep the channel of communication open if there are other positions that candidates might be better suited for.
