I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time (less than a year)

They had very flexible scheduling although this was due to the fact that your pay is tied directly to sales. Their training was good and corporate support was very consistent. They have a large amount of training resources.

It is a sales gig. If you can't sale some insurance you do not get paid. All the touchy-feelgood stuff is great and yes you do help people but at the end of the day your calling people to set meetings to sell them something. Just keep this in mind. They are not entirely upfront about this. Also, it is almost entirely commission only. I only had a couple minor sales and actually owed the company money when I quit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is a very rough field with a brutal retention rate. They try to be as honest without scaring off all their recruits but maybe a little more transparency about the actual nature of the job up front would be nice.

I applied through college or university. The process took a weekinterviewed at Northwestern Mutual.

    Interview Details

First it was a 30min phone interview. Then I was offered to come to the office to speak with a director. At the end of the interview I was assigned a project to complete for them in a week. I then came back to the office with my project and I was told to expect a call from them in the next two days regardless of consideration. I was then called and offered the position.
