I worked at NovaBay full-time (More than 8 years)
Over the last 15 years NovaBay has grown from a small private pharmaceutical research and development company to a public company with products on the market. It is a still a relatively small company and therefore an ideal environment for employees new to the business to be exposed to all aspects of product development, sales and decision-making. Innovative pharmaceutical research, particularly in small, underfunded companies is a risky business. The company has had its share of setbacks but has weathered these in major part due to the leadership of its CEO, Ron Najafi. He continues to attract investors to finance the expansion of sales. Ron Najafi’s management team is first rate. His CFO and head of business development are very capable and experienced. All are as honorable, honest and hard working individuals that anyone could wish to work for. The company’s board of directors are seasoned industry leaders and highly supportive of management.
Until income from sales substantially exceeds expenses the company’s finances will be tight. Consequently working for such a company is not for the faint-hearted.
Advice to Management
Keep up the focus on expanding sales. Find ways to finance or license out the considerable body of research and development data, know-how and experience built over the last 15 years.
Getting an Interview
Getting an Interview
- No OfferNegative ExperienceAverage Interview
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at NovaBay (Emeryville, CA) in July 2015.
After a couple of days, I had emailed the Craigslist's anonymous email address to contact NovaBay about my cover letter, resume, & salary requirements submittal (as mention in the original job ad on July 15, 2015 at 11:53AM). Following into the next week, in the middle of the week, I got a phone call to set up a phone interview at the end of the week. Then, I got a call-back the next following week after for an In-Office Interview in the middle of the week. I thought both interview went very well. You meet with the Sales Manager, Product Manager, & CEO in a conference room; each about 30 minutes. Last, talk with the Vice-President on Polycom. I do not recommend anyone to apply to this company because when I checked the Glassdoor Review -- Cons comments of current & former employees, I found some comments that I can relate to. For example, I did not appreciate not being informed that I was not chosen b/c they considered my salary requirement from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (Ocupational Employment Survey) of the market rate too high for their entry-level, low pay. I had to leave several emails & voice mail messages before getting a call-back with bad news. I found that the conversation did not have the best integrity in my mind. Especially, since the CEO in his interview meeting with me emphasis his Mission statements. I thought this company would be better than most companies I have come across b/c they were a bio-medical pharmaceutical company, you expect more professionalism and honesty. I was wrong. I hope my comments and Glassdoor comments from former & current employees in the "Reviews" section help job-seekers make an informed decision on maybe not applying to this company.
