I worked at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Opportunity to advance in skills, knowledge, expertise, excellent pay and benefits, flexible schedule for mothers, many wonderful and talented people in a large company; great compensation and time-off

    Cons

There is a lot of overturn in staff, many changes in goals/direction. This may require relocation without much advance notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve on communication regarding changes especially if relocation is necessary. Help new employees have a more hands on approach with standard operating procedures and learning company policies. For example, taking a class with others regarding a company policy and not sitting at a computer going through a tutorial. My experience was the following; upon hire, complete 70-100 SOP's online within the first 2 weeks. The chance of remembering this information is not good. Classes could be spread out over 1-2 years. It also gives the chance to get to know other individuals heading up management in other departments and learn the overall structure of a large pharmaceutical company. It allows time to absorb and integrate, learn and development personal relationships with others in the overall industry. Most training today is still done on computer tutorial.

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research in August 2014.

    Interview Details

I applied for the position through Novartis's online website. I received an email asking for a phone interview within one week. After the phone interview I had a second interview with the group lead. During this interview I was told I'd be invited for an on site interview. The interview process was the typical 1 on 1 meetings and 45 minute presentation. My interview was from 8:30-5pm however I was told this was only because I was from out of state, most interviews are half a day. I met with everyone in the group a number of executives and group leads from different departments. Overall it was a great day and I enjoyed the process.
