Owens Corning Benefits
The benefits described below are designed for U.S. salaried employees. For details on benefit packages outside the U.S., please contact your Owens Corning regional Human Resources department.
Owens Corning employees are exceptional - and so is our total compensation opportunity. OC pays competitively and offers significant incentive opportunities. We also provide competitive benefits starting on your first day of work, with a range of options allowing you to choose based on your individual needs.
Owens Corning pays for performance. We offer competitive base salaries and the opportunity to earn additional compensation through our incentive pay program. Our incentive pay is designed to provide greater rewards to our high-performers - those that consistently raise the bar.
OC offers a market-competitive retirement savings plan that provides you an opportunity to build a retirement nest egg. Our 401(k) savings plan offers tax advantages and a wide range of investment options. You are also eligible for a 100 percent match up to six percent of eligible pay. In addition, OC will contribute two percent of eligible pay whether or not you contribute to the 401(k) savings plan. All company contributions are immediately vested.
The Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) provides U.S. employees the opportunity purchase Owens Corning stock at a 15 percent discount every six months. Employees who decide to enroll in the ESPP will set aside after-tax dollars through payroll deduction into an individual account at Fidelity Investments. At the end of the stock offering period, shares will be purchased using these accumulated funds. The Owens Corning ESPP provides a convenient way for employees to build wealth, become shareholders and take part in the company’s future success.
Owens Corning offers a variety of health care options to help meet your needs and those of your eligible dependents, including:
- Medical and prescription drug coverage
- Dental coverage (including orthodontia)
- Vision coverage
We’re proud of the fact that our employees pay less on average for medical coverage and for out-of-pocket costs than those at other companies.
The health care spending account allows you to set aside from $120 to $2,500 each year on a pre-tax basis to pay for expenses not fully covered by any health care plan for you and your eligible dependents. The dependent care spending account allows you to set aside from $120 to $5,000 in pre-tax dollars each year to pay for eligible dependent day care expenses.
The Healthy Living wellness program provides employees and their covered adult dependents with resources to help better manage their health. Programs include lifestyle healthy coaching, condition and maternity management, and annual health assessments and screening opportunities. For some programs, rewards for participation are also provided.
Life and Disability Protection
Full-time employees receive $50,000 of basic life insurance coverage.
If you have a qualifying disability, the short-term disability plan replaces 100 percent of your pay for 30 working days (or six weeks), and 60 percent of your pay for the remainder of your disability (up to 18 months). Long-term disability benefits of 60 percent of eligible pay begin after 18 months for qualifying disabilities.
If you’re a transferring employee or a new hire, you may be eligible to receive relocation assistance. This program can include reimbursement for home sale, transition expenses, lease cancellation, final moving expenses, and/or tax assistance.
Full-time employees receive vacation time based on length of service with Owens Corning, from one week of vacation after six months up to five weeks of vacation after 25 years. In addition, you receive 11 paid holidays each year.
As an employee, you’ll have access to a number of voluntary benefit programs:

The employee rebate program allows employees to receive a rebate of up to $2,000 every four years for purchases of OC’s wide range of products for new construction or home improvement products. The application period is held annually at the beginning of each year. Scholarships are awarded in amounts of $2000 or $4000 depending on the recipient’s course load. Scholarship recipients are selected based on manager recommendation, statement of career goals, demonstrated leadership, and past academic performance.

Building and Restoring Communities
As a global leader in building materials and composite solutions, we believe our products can help people in need and restore communities. Owens Corning provides supplies for the building and rehabilitation of low-income housing, community rebuilding projects, refurbishing living quarters for those on a fixed income, revitalizing neighborhood centers and providing disaster relief.
Owens Corning has partnered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity®, HomeAid, Gifts In Kind International and World Vision to help coordinate the distribution of product donations. For example, 250 Owens Corning volunteers built the company's seventh, and largest, Habitat for Humanity home in 2010. Volunteers donated approximately 1,100 work hours over eight weeks, in which Owens Corning provided 10 different products to provide a new home for a family of six in Toledo, Ohio.
In 2010, Owens Corning employees contributed more than 7,000 hours in service to boards, special causes and non-profit organizations.
Employees volunteered in a wide variety of community projects, including visits to the Ronald McDonald House in Granville, Ohio; food preparation for the homeless at the Houston Food Bank; and a day of singing and drawing with special needs children at the Shanghai Yue Miao Caring Center.
Experiences like these are made possible through our employee volunteer activities that align with employee interests. The company sponsors projects year round and enables our employees to learn about and experience various volunteer opportunities worldwide.
Since 1993, the Owens Corning Global Volunteer of the Year Award program has honored more than 20 employees, teams and retirees who have demonstrated outstanding community service. Since 2005, we have given in excess of $650,000 toward education initiatives. Some examples of our involvement in educational initiatives include:
Junior Achievement: With the help and guidance of many U.S.-based Owens Corning employees, local students in grades K-12 learn about economics and the free enterprise system in seven key areas: business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy, and career development.
Adopt-A-School: Many Owens Corning facilities participate in this locally focused initiative to expand the resources of local schools. Through the program, employees volunteer to help develop school programs, and read to and tutor at-risk students to help them gain fundamental learning and life skills.
Improving Quality of Life
In addition to our involvement in affordable housing and quality education, we participate in a variety of other programs that improve the quality of life in our neighbor communities.
One of our well-known and ongoing commitments is to the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic. In partnership with actor Jamie Farr, Owens Corning has supported the Ladies Professional Golf Association tournament as its title sponsor since 2004. Since 1984, this event has raised more than $6.8 million to benefit 125 children's charities in Ohio, such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northwest Ohio, SAFY (a leading national foster care agency), Toledo Community Recreation Program, Ronald McDonald House, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio and many more.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks – interviewed at Owens Corning.
After submitting my resume and the typical phone screening, Owens Corning arranged my travel to one of their manufacturing sites. I went out to dinner with a team of recruiters, as well as two other candidates. This was the first and only time I have ever participated in an interview with other candidates present. Candidate 1 was a bit older than myself with more extensive experience; I assumed that he would be chosen (rightly) for this position. Candidate 2 was much younger and struck me as immature. He responded rudely to a question from one of the HR reps and at the time I thought he may have compromised his interview right then.
Dinner was fine, but the lead HR rep commented that their interviewers agreed that they knew within ten seconds or so of meeting a potential candidate face-to-face whether or not they wanted to pursue that candidate. Apparently because the members were so competent and wise. I obviously had about two competing thoughts about this: 1) If I am not selected, then this pathetic, self-important little HR person just insulted me and the other candidate for no good reason, and 2) If I AM selected, this pathetic, self-important little HR person couldn't have possibly have made the decision with much thought or skill. Plus, he insulted the other two candidates for no good reason.
The next morning was the site visit. Candidate 1 showed up at the same time I did and we had the opportunity for some conversation before the interviews and plant tour. Candidate 2 was nowhere to be seen. The details are somewhat irrelevant, other than the conditions on the factory floor looked unsafe and surprised me because I figured OC would have a better handle on their operations.
I wasn't offered the position and believe it was probably for the best. I know that the Owens Corning I saw at the time was NOT the place I wanted to work, but I hope that for the sake of their members that they are focusing on the safety and health of their factory workers.
