Drug development firm Pharmacyclics wants to support suicide in cancerous cells. Its lead candidate MGd is designed to induce apoptosis, or cell death, in cancer cells. It is being developed as a stand-alone therapy and in combination with chemotherapy and radiation for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer and other cancers. Pharmacyclics has other oncology candidates, including PCI-24781 in clinical trials for the treatment of solid tumors. Pharmacyclics has a licensing and development agreement with The University of Texas.
